Engaging & Integrating Sustainability across the Business at Enterprise Level

Focusing her keynote on the integration of sustainability in the supply chain Eirini Etoimou, Head of Corporate Sustainability & Director of Supply Chain Development at Sellafield Ltd highlighted the complex identity crisis often experienced by supply chain and procurement professionals as well as stressed the importance of a holistic approach to sustainability. 

"Sustainability is not one thing and cannot be strategised as a disruptor, but as a strategy of integration,” said Etoimou.

Integrating sustainability into the supply chain 

When it comes to integrating sustainability within the supply chain, Etoimou explained that the journey starts with development, through tender processes, and ultimately reaching supply relationship management for both new and existing suppliers.

She also highlighted the importance of collaboration, transparency, and communication both internally and externally.

"Supply chain is the closest business organisation that can support sustainability principles and goals,” commented Etoimou. 

Adding: “Together we can ensure that we have a more sustainable relationship.”

A pragmatic and long-term approach to sustainability 

When it comes to the integration process, Etoimou concluded her keynote by emphasising a pragmatic, long-term approach that focuses on continuous improvement and consistency.

She also highlighted the importance of structure, discipline, persistence, and collaboration on the journey.
