Energy Source is the world’s first software allowing energy users to manage their energy portfolio in one dashboard and will streamline energy procurement

As stakeholders and organisations begin to demand greater accountability and transparency surrounding sustainability, effective energy procurement helps businesses to enhance resilience, reduce costs and transition to cleaner energy solutions.

This will also allow companies to optimise PPAs, manage risks and align energy consumption with decarbonisation targets.

Business management consultant Baringa has launched the world’s first software that allows prominent energy users to manage their energy portfolio in one dashboard - Energy Source.

The web application was launched on 6 March, 2025, and provides contract analysis, PPA valuation, reporting and decision-making capabilities.

Energy Source will optimise energy procurement to help companies lower costs, reduce risk and catalyse the transition to net zero.

Henning Bottger, a partner at Baringa, explains: “Large firms have been setting decarbonisation targets, but this is the easy part – the hard challenge is decarbonising their electricity to meet those targets.

“One of the largest levers companies can pull are PPAs – but typically information about PPAs exists on different spreadsheets in different geographies, sometimes on the servers of different suppliers. This lack of joined up data can lead to inefficiency in decarbonisation and potentially to millions being wasted through poor allocation of resources.

“Energy Source exists to correct this. With one view of all Power Purchase Agreements, including all the demand and price modelling companies can need, companies can take better decisions about their electricity, saving money and carbon.”

Energy Source

Energy Source is Baringa’s software that helps energy users with control and visibility over Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and their energy demand.

It allows businesses to craft detailed frameworks for power sourcing decisions and secure clarity for stakeholders and leadership by consolidating data into a single dashboard.

Energy Source tackles the challenges and operational and strategic risks of managing PPAs by offering:

  •  Unified data management

Centralise energy demand and PPA demand information to reduce inefficiencies and eliminate data silos.

  • Enhanced decision-making

Evaluate current and future contracts to support informed risk assessment and decision-making

  • Comprehensive reporting

Supports detailed auditing and reporting to maintain compliance and transparency with internal and external requirements

Energy Source combined these functions to support organisations to mitigate risks while saving time and money. This supports organisations on their transition to sustainable energy procurement and consumption.

The importance of energy procurement

Companies must embrace strategic approaches to energy sourcing to remain competitive as sustainability targets continue to evolve.

Energy procurement remains a vital aspect of business operations, impacting sustainability objectives and financial performance.

As energy prices change due to geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions and regulatory changes, energy procurement strategies can secure operational stability and budget predictability.

Not only will it help businesses to stay compliant with evolving policies to avoid reputational risks but it will also allow companies to differentiate themselves in the market to enhance business resilience and brand reputation.

Organisations are ensuring sustainability is a core aspect of procurement strategies to reduce carbon footprints. Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) allow companies to source renewable energy and meet ESG reporting requirements and net zero goals.

Energy procurement also impacts the entire supply chain. By assessing suppliers’ energy use, organisations can integrate sustainability throughout the value chain and enhance emissions reductions.
Companies that craft a proactive energy procurement strategy can contribute to a low-carbon economy while securing long-term resilience by balancing regulatory compliance, cost efficiency and sustainability.

How will Energy Source streamline the procurement process?

Energy Source will streamline the procurement process by offering a centralised platform to combine PPA and energy demand data into a user-friendly dashboard.

By consolidating this information, Baringa can support businesses to make informed decisions and minimise data silos.

Energy Source will improve risk assessment and decision-making across the procurement lifecycle by assessing supplier performance, offering tools for evaluating current and future contracts and conducting detailed reporting.

It also allows companies to optimise contracts, manage risks and maintain compliance with requirements by allowing energy procurement strategies to align with sustainability goals.

Energy Source’s comprehensive approach supports companies in their transition to sustainable energy consumption while reducing inefficiencies.
