DHL Group announces a 10-year agreement with Statkraft, under which the company will supply DHL with renewable electricity

Stratkraft, one of Europe’s leading power purchase agreement (PPA) providers, under a 10-year agreement, will supply DHL Group with renewable electricity from an onshore wind farm in northern Germany.

As part of the agreement, which started in February, Statkraft will supply around 35 GWh of renewable electricity annually, covering roughly 8% of DHL Group's current electricity demand in Germany.

The electricity is generated by the company’s newly constructed Sollwitt-Pobüll onshore wind park in Schleswig-Holstein, which has an installed capacity of 13.2 MW.

This agreement is an important milestone for our energy strategy in Germany.

DHL’s Decarbonisation journey

This latest agreement marks a significant step in DHL Group’s decarbonisation journey in Germany. As the company's first onshore wind PPA in the country, it is set to broaden DHL’s renewable procurement beyond offshore wind. It will also support the diversification of its renewable energy supply.

In addition, by sourcing its power directly from a project outside Germany’s EEG subsidy scheme, the company is strengthening the resilience of its energy supply, reducing its environmental footprint and contributing to the further expansion of renewable capacity.

"By adding our first onshore wind PPA, we are strengthening the resilience of our energy supply and directly supporting new, renewable capacity in Germany. Together with our offshore PPAs, this takes us another major step closer to decarbonising our operations," says Anna.

Statkraft expands into logistics

With this 10-year agreement, Statkraft is expanding its solutions to the logistics sector and strengthening the Norwegian energy group's position as a leading provider of tailored PPA models, as well as showcasing the company as a reliable partner for major industrial customers.

"With its energy requirement, the logistics industry is a key player in the energy transition. We are delighted to have DHL, one of the world's leading players in this industry, as our partner," says Patrick Koch, Head of German Origination at Statkraft.

"Our PPA model combines several advantages: long-term price security, access to renewable electricity from new wind turbines, and a tailor-made solution adapted to DHL Group's specific preferences."

The contract further complements DH Group’s offshore PPAs in Germany, and by adding onshore wind to its portfolio, DHL Group now sources renewable energy from multiple technologies and partners.

As such, the company is enhancing its local sourcing, strengthening its supply security and ensuring long-term price stability.
