DHL and Michelin partner to boost sustainable procurement with an electric prime mover, cutting supply chain emissions and advancing green logistics

DHL Supply Chain Thailand has partnered with Michelin to introduce an electric prime mover, a fully electric heavy-duty truck aimed at reducing emissions in the supply chain.

This initiative aligns with both companies’ goals to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The new vehicle is expected to cut emissions by approximately 195 metric tons annually, supporting efforts to decarbonise logistics in Thailand.

Operating between Michelin’s factories, the electric truck will use Michelin’s advanced tyre technology, including MICHELIN X® Multi™ Z2 and MICHELIN X Multi D+, designed for durability and efficiency.

This collaboration is part of a broader memorandum of understanding (MOU) between DHL and Michelin to develop sustainable solutions in logistics, focusing on safety, circularity and environmental impact.

Driving sustainability in the supply chain

With increasing pressure from consumers and regulatory bodies to improve sustainability, companies must rethink their supply chain strategies.

The logistics sector is a major contributor to global emissions, with road freight playing a key role.

DHL and Michelin’s partnership demonstrates how collaboration can accelerate green transport solutions.

Steve Walker, CEO of DHL Supply Chain Thailand Cluster, states: “In line with our Green Transport Policy, we are always looking to electrify our transport fleet within our supply chain and finding more sustainable ways to operate. Hence, we are excited that Michelin is joining this journey with us to support low and zero carbon road transportation. Introducing our first electric prime mover with them is a crucial step in accelerating decarbonisation efforts.”

DHL’s expertise in automotive supply chain management and electric vehicle technology will support Michelin’s sustainability targets, ensuring operational efficiency while lowering emissions. DHL is also integrating AI-powered fleet management tools to enhance route planning, monitor vehicle performance and reduce energy waste.

These digital solutions play a crucial role in minimising the environmental footprint of logistics operations. The electric prime mover sets a benchmark for green logistics in Thailand, encouraging wider adoption of electric vehicles across the industry. By reducing noise pollution and cutting carbon emissions, the vehicle helps address key challenges in sustainable supply chain management.

Logistics innovation through EVs

The newly launched electric prime mover is designed to improve sustainability in freight transport.

Powered entirely by clean energy, the truck emits zero carbon emissions and requires only two hours to fully recharge. It can travel up to 350km on a single charge, making it a viable solution for regional logistics operations.

DHL is deploying this electric vehicle on two key routes: Phra Pradaeng to Nong Kae and Phra Pradaeng to Laem Chabang. The truck’s operations will be managed through DHL’s Connected Control Tower, which leverages AI and digital tools such as the Transport Management System, Paragon Route Optimisation System and Telematics. DHL’s MySupplyChain platform will provide real-time oversight, allowing for efficient fleet management.

Key features of the electric prime mover
  • Zero-emissions and powered by clean energy
  • Efficient and high-performance design
  • Smart fleet management technology
  • Noise reduction & sustainable operation

AI-powered onboard cameras will enhance safety, while DHL’s tracking team will receive instant alerts on incidents, further ensuring the smooth operation of the electric fleet. Additionally, drivers will receive specialised training focused on electric vehicle safety.

The deployment of this electric prime mover marks a significant milestone in DHL’s ongoing efforts to integrate low-carbon logistics solutions into its global supply chain network.

Michelin’s commitment to sustainable mobility

This partnership supports Michelin’s All-Sustainable Strategy (part of the “Michelin in Motion” strategy), which prioritises economic, environmental and social sustainability.

Michelin aims to achieve 100% circularity in its tyres by 2050, incorporating fully recycled and renewable materials into production.

Ahmadreza Bahrami, Vice President, Supply Chain & Logistics, Michelin Asia Pacific, highlights this commitment: “At Michelin, sustainability is not just a vision – it is our action plan. Our commitment to integrating 100% recycled and renewable materials in our tires by 2050 is a testament to our leadership in sustainable mobility.

“We are accelerating the transition to cleaner transportation while maintaining the highest performance standards through innovation and collaboration, such as this partnership with DHL. Together, we are shaping a future where mobility is both efficient and environmentally responsible.”

Michelin has already made significant progress towards its sustainability goals. By 2024, it has:

  • Reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 37% (targeting net zero by 2050)
  • Contributed +4.3% towards net-zero emissions in product use
  • Achieved 31% circularity in tyre production (aiming for 100% by 2050)

The collaboration with DHL will further support Michelin’s sustainability objectives, integrating green logistics practices into its global supply chain.

The introduction of the electric prime mover marks a key step in advancing sustainable transport solutions in Thailand.

As companies across industries seek to lower their carbon footprint, strategic partnerships like this will be essential in shaping a greener future for logistics.
