Octopus Electroverse launches Business Payment Card to streamline electric fleet management for companies, eliminating organizational hassles

The transition to Electric Vehicles (EVs) is propelling forward, with fleet managers facing new challenges as they align with the UK’s 2030 petrol and diesel ban.

In response, Octopus and Visa Commercial Solutions have teamed up to unveil a Business Payment Card designed to streamline the development of next-generation EV fleets.

Octopus asserts that this Electroverse for business cards will address various needs such as public and at-home charging as well as on-the-road expenses.

Richard Campion, Head of Fleet & Mobility at Visa Europe, says: ā€œFleet operators are looking for smarter ways to manage the shift to electric and Visa Fleet 2.0 makes that transition simpler and more efficient.

ā€œWith Electroverse, we’re enabling UK businesses to consolidate on-the-road spending, gain real-time visibility and maintain the security and control they expect from Visa-all while powering a cleaner future for transport.ā€

How does the Electroverse card benefit procurement?

Led by Octopus Energy, the Electroverse card simplifies fleet management through public electric vehicle charging services on a global scale.

This integration is powered by Visa Fleet 2.0 and enters the UK market to assist businesses navigating the path to electrification.

Whether a company has just commenced the transition or is well on its way, this card is designed to meet all road-related needs including charging, fuel, tolls and other expenses.

This payment solution provides procurement teams with an interconnected platform to efficiently manage company fleets.

ā€œThis isn’t just a charging card, it’s a full-on expense solution for your fleet, no matter what stage of your electrification journey,ā€ highlights Octopus Electroverse.

Streamlining expenditure for fleet management

According to Octopus Energy, having to manage multiple cards, apps and payment options can hinder fleet electrification and create administrative burdens.

By consolidating various needs into a single card, Octopus aims to simplify tracking company fleets.

This integration offers spending limits, flexible budgeting options and real-time expense adjustments. Additionally, it boasts built-in fraud protection, thereby enhancing financial security for procurement departments.

Matt Davies, Director of Electroverse, underscores this development: "We’ve made charging simple for drivers-now we’re making the whole fleet experience just as easy for Britain’s six million fleet vehicles."

Impact on EV fleets and overall procurement strategy

As mainstream companies expand their electric vehicle fleets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, procurement strategies are shifting.

For instance, Royal Mail aims to boost its EV count, reporting reduced carbon emissions per parcel due to biofuel use and the introduction of more EVs.

The company reported that its average carbon emissions per parcel fell to 165gCO2e from 206gCO2e in 2024.

It reports that the reduction was mainly due to its use of low emission biofuel and deployment of more EVs.

Alistair Cochrane, interim CEO at Royal Mail said: ā€œWe’re immensely proud of our sustainability progress which has once again exceeded our expectations.

ā€œWhilst there’s still lots more work to be done, this huge achievement reflects our commitment to being Net-Zero by 2040.ā€

Similarly, Amazon has accelerated its EV adoption with a goal to deploy 100,000 electric delivery vehicles by 2030.
