Cardlay and Visa: Transforming Fleet Spend Management

With mobility and fleet management expectations evolving rapidly, fleet operators need new ways to streamline operations, reduce costs and manage spend effectively.
To help organisations meet these goals Danish fintech company Cardlay has strengthened its existing relationship with Visa to enable a more seamless way to issue, manage and reconcile fleet card spend digitally.
Under the partnership Cardly becomes part of the Visa Ready Partner Program, an initiative that helps tech firms ensure their payment solutions are compatible with Visa and can be easily adopted by users.
The move is central to Cardlay’s aim of reshaping how businesses manage vehicle-related expenses.
“Visa is at its strongest when we combine our core assets with those of our partners," explains Richard Campion Head of Fleet & B2B Mobility, Visa Europe.
"Through the Visa Ready for Fleet program, Visa is creating an ecosystem of partners who can deliver a suite of solutions for our Fleet & Mobility clients.”
Partnering for smarter fleet spend tools
Cardlay positions its platform as a future-proof solution for companies managing fleets across different mobility formats.
This includes traditional fuel vehicles and electric vehicles (EVs), as well as hybrid approaches.
A key focus is on digitising every stage of spend management, from the issue of fleet cards to reconciliation of expenses, while ensuring that every interaction is traceable and compliant with policy frameworks.
The company’s partnership with Visa will equip businesses with sophisticated data insights and digital tools, supporting a diverse and dynamically shifting fleet landscape.
Together, the pair will deliver native digital management of business-to-business fleet cards, with direct access to spend tracking and automated reconciliation tools.
Cardlay’s digital interface makes it possible to issue and control both physical and virtual fleet cards. These are managed from a centralised platform that brings fuel and non-fuel expenses under one roof.
This aims to remove the inefficiency of juggling multiple cards while maintaining the security and control companies need.
“We are thrilled to deepen our collaboration with Visa and join the Visa Ready Partner Program. This partnership allows us to drive meaningful change in fleet spend management by delivering flexible, integrated solutions that address the real-world needs of businesses today,” says Kasper Guul Laursen, CSO of Cardlay.
“By combining Cardlay’s modular platform with Visa’s powerful infrastructure, we’re able to empower companies with advanced tools to streamline operations, optimise costs, and support sustainable, data-driven growth in the mobility sector.”
Meeting future fleet spend needs
Cardlay’s digital interface makes it possible to issue and control both physical and virtual fleet cards.
These are managed from a centralised platform that brings fuel and non-fuel expenses under one roof.
By doing so, this helps fleet managers and procurement teams to remove the inefficiency of juggling multiple cards while maintaining the security and control companies need.
In addition, the company’s technology plugs directly into new and existing fleet card programmes.
This ensures businesses are better equipped to meet the rapidly evolving fleet landscape, particularly as it moves beyond just traditional fuel payments to new demands in the forecourt environment.
In practice, this allows for the real-time management of spend limits, translation and activity history, self-service card activation and automated expense processing – all capabilities designed to help businesses adapt quickly to changes.
In the future, this could mean catering for use cases such as EV charging and street parking integrations, the development of loyalty programmes and associated spend, as well as CO2 and ESG reporting.
Philip Konopik, Regional Managing Director of Visa Nordics and Baltics, concludes: “This partnership reflects our commitment to providing a seamless customer experience and ensuring that every transaction is secure and reliable.
“We are a longstanding champion of the fintech sector, and we have played an instrumental role in shaping the fintech environment that we know today. By providing access to our technology, global network, dedicated programmes and expert guidance, we are committed to growing the sector’s most promising businesses.”
Rising operational costs, growing regulatory pressures and a greater focus on sustainability mean effective and efficient fleet management is an increasingly important concern for businesses.
In this context, Cardlay’s and Visa’s partnership is intended to deliver innovative solutions to support the global transition towards a more connected and cost-effective approach to fleet and spend management.
