Digital procurement in the cloud: Challenges & opportunities for buyers (Fireside Chat)

For the past 10 years, Matt Yanchyshyn, has been a loyal member of AWS. Starting out as a Solution Architect, Yanchyshyn has climbed through the company to hold the role he has today - General Manager, AWS Marketplace & Partner Engineering.

At Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE New York, Yanchyshyn discussed the challenges when it comes to adopting cloud technology in procurement operations including cloud migration, changing perceptions, and leadership buy-in.

“Changing perception is probably the biggest philosophical challenge. More and more enterprises with more mature procurement motions want to adopt startup practices, but in an enterprise environment they've been doing things a certain way for a long time, and things like subscription-based software or just procuring at the type of scale that developers operate at these days in any large enterprise that's new.”

Elsewhere, Yanchyshyn discussed managing and mitigating risk in procurement, the opportunities that the cloud can provide, the pace of progression, and the benefits of unlocking agility and transparency.

“When you leverage a cloud marketplace, you can get centralised visibility into all of the licenses, distributing those licenses, what vendors are in use, how much they're being used and then negotiated. It's amazing in huge enterprises what you find. These pockets of different teams all across the globe who have the same software that they've negotiated, 10 or 20 different contracts with that one vendor, all at a rate that could be much lower if that was a single consolidated global agreement.”
