SAP and American Express have unveiled a groundbreaking new solution with potential to transform travel and expense (T&E) management.

Both SAP Concur and Amex GBT have contributed their respective technologies and expertise in corporate travel to develop the next-generation platform, which is aimed at streamlining business travel processes while offering greater flexibility and control to procurement leaders and travel managers.

"This strategic alliance represents the future of travel and expense management," asserts Fred Fredericks, General Manager and Chief Product Officer at SAP Concur.

"By uniting SAP Concur technology and global expertise with Amex GBT’s unmatched marketplace, software and service plus our mutual AI capabilities, we are delivering a unified solution that makes business travel not only easier, but smarter and more impactful for organisations everywhere."

SAP Concur has also confirmed its Concur Expense tool is being integrated with Amex GBT’s Egencia platform, offering more options for customers who require a fully-unified T&E management solution.

An integrated T&E platform

Complete introduces a joined-up approach to managing business travel, merging SAP Concur’s expense management tools with Amex GBT’s broad travel network to deliver a single roadmap and support model.

The solution focuses on three core areas: marketplace, software and services.

Through the alliance, Complete gains access to the Amex GBT travel marketplace, which includes more than 600 airlines and two million properties. This content now feeds into the SAP Concur technology stack, allowing customers to benefit from deeper discounts, better rates and more compelling travel incentives.

Users also receive access to enhanced content across air, hotel, ground transport and rail, as well as improved support through an integrated chat agent. This tool manages the entire travel process in a single interface, offering time savings and a streamlined user experience.

The platform also accelerates the availability of New Distribution Capability (NDC) content, which offers more transparent fare options while improving policy compliance. NDC refers to a data standard developed by the airline industry to give travel agents direct access to airline content, fare structures and personalised offers.

Crucially, Complete leverages AI features trained on data from millions of trips and transactions through SAP Concur and Amex GBT, allowing it to adjust dynamically to traveller behaviour and policy needs in near-real time.

AI brings new capabilities to procurement

As the corporate travel landscape evolves, AI looks set to play a central role in improving visibility, personalisation and compliance.

Complete is built to address these challenges by embedding AI tools directly into travel booking, expense and service processes.

Evan Konwiser, Chief Product and Strategy Officer at Amex GBT, adds: "This bold step forward with SAP Concur reimagines how travel and expense solutions can deliver unprecedented value to our customers and their travellers in the AI age.

"Our unique collaboration empowers us to build new software together that deeply integrates our data, marketplace and servicing capabilities across both travel and expense to deliver the future that the industry seeks."

The integration of data from both companies allows Complete to analyse past spending and travel patterns, helping procurement professionals and travel managers to optimise their programmes, improve policy adherence and react to real-time travel disruptions.

AI also enables Complete to deliver contextual insights to both travellers and organisations. For instance, it can recommend cost-efficient alternatives during booking or provide instant adjustments in the event of delays or cancellations.

Collaboration continues

Complete is being made available to mutual SAP Concur and Amex GBT customers this month, with more features set to launch over the coming weeks. Customers using Concur Expense will also have the option to integrate with Amex GBT’s Egencia platform.

Meanwhile, SAP Concur has confirmed its Partner Programme for Travel Management Companies (TMCs) is evolving as part of this initiative. The restructured programme is designed to increase value for existing and future customers of both companies.

Further co-developed innovations are already in the works, including expanded travel content display, advanced travel manager controls and the introduction of an AI-enhanced booking experience. SAP Concur and Amex GBT are also aiming to improve travel disruption management and programme analytics using their combined data and AI resources.

This joint roadmap reflects a shared vision to transform the way organisations manage corporate travel. With a focus on simplicity, control and intelligence, the alliance sets a new standard for T&E in the procurement space.
