How FedEx is Streamlining its Operations in Slovakia

FedEx is constantly expanding its global operations and this time, the delivery and logistics company has opened a new logistics facility in Košice, Slovakia. 

The investment expands logistics capacity for manufacturers, exporters and retailers, strengthening regional distribution and procurement networks.

Fedex’s Slovakia presence 

With a workforce exceeding 180 individuals across eight existing locations, FedEx maintains strong links to its operational hubs in Germany, France, the Netherlands, the US and Asia. 

The introduction of the new logistics facility will empower partner businesses to scale their operations, granting them access to specialised services like palletised freight alongside direct entry into long-haul distribution networks. This expansion will ultimately enhance network links for FedEx clients across Europe and on a global scale.

Business challenges and solutions

According to research company Science Direct, a 2023 report detailed the challenges companies in Slovakia are facing which include constraints that have  increased pressure on procurement and logistics teams to secure resilient transportation capacity and reliable last-mile delivery. To address these challenges, the FedEx facility in Košice offers targeted logistics solutions tailored for service providers, manufacturers, exporters and e-commerce retailers. 

Operational efficiency at the site has already seen significant improvements. Pick-up and delivery drivers are now departing 45 minutes earlier every morning, and the processing times for international shipments have been reduced by 50%. These upgrades guarantee enhanced network reliability, faster transit times and earlier delivery windows.

FedEx plans to open two additional sites in Nitra and Trenčín alongside the new Košice facility to grow its international presence. These expansions align with the company's objectives to lower border delays via digital customs solutions, increase its global market access, and attain carbon-neutral operations by 2040.

FedEx and CMA CGM partnership

In reference to additional regional procurement, FedEx has established a strategic relationship with CMA CGM and its supply chain operations. Through this arrangement, FedEx operates as CMA CGM’s designated ocean carrier, managing select air cargo capacity solutions and providing specialised services.

Through its integration with CEVA Logistics, FedEx Supply Chain will become a leading service provider within the US, boasting a network of 150 warehouses and a combined workforce of over 200,000 employees spread across 240 locations.
