Boots Retail Thailand and DHL Supply Chain introduce a 100% EV fleet to cut emissions and enhance ESG-aligned procurement and logistics strategies

Boots Retail Thailand teams up with DHL Supply Chain Thailand to transform its product distribution model with a new 100% EV fleet.

This move supports ESG priorities by integrating sustainable supplier selection and logistics practices into everyday operations.

The partnership aims to decarbonise the last-mile delivery of goods to more than 250 stores across the country, reducing carbon emissions by 74 metric tonnes annually.

This initiative underlines the growing influence of ESG in procurement and logistics, showing how brands can integrate low-emission transport options within a commercial supply chain without compromising service levels.

Both organisations see this collaboration as a step toward sustainable operations that meet rising regulatory and consumer expectations.

ESG-led procurement and logistics integration

The shift toward clean energy transport in Boots’ distribution network reflects a broader shift in how businesses evaluate and select suppliers.

Sustainable supplier selection, once a nice-to-have, has become a requirement.

With stakeholders demanding transparency and action on climate targets, ESG factors now influence procurement decisions alongside price and quality.

Through the adoption of EVs, Boots and DHL are demonstrating a practical application of ESG strategy in logistics.

As Steve Walker, CEO of DHL Supply Chain Thailand Cluster, explains: “As a trusted partner of Boots Thailand, we are proud to support their sustainability journey.

“At DHL Supply Chain, we are also driving tangible change – including our commitment to achieve 30% sustainable drives and fuels across our global fleet by the end of 2026, in line with our global Green Transport Policy.

“Collaborating with like-minded partners like Boots Thailand, who share our vision for low emission supply chains, accelerates this progress. Together, we are turning our sustainability ambitions into tangible action, delivering emission reduced solutions that benefit our businesses and reduce our environmental impact to the planet.”

By implementing a fully electric fleet, the partnership aims to set a new standard for logistics in the region.

Compact and fast-charging, the EVs provide urban deliveries with minimal disruption, particularly in densely populated areas.

The vehicles are capable of a full recharge in just one hour and can travel up to 250km per charge. This provides operational flexibility while reducing maintenance costs, downtime and carbon emissions.

Logistics optimisation with cleaner operations

Incorporating electric vehicles into daily logistics schedules not only reduces carbon emissions but also supports more efficient route planning.

With EVs available for 24/7 operation, deliveries can be scheduled during quieter hours, avoiding traffic congestion and improving punctuality.

The design of the vehicles allows for improved navigation in crowded city environments.

Unlike internal combustion engine vans, electric vehicles generate lower levels of both air and noise pollution, making them ideal for use in sensitive urban zones. With fewer mechanical components, they also bring the added benefit of lower maintenance costs, contributing to long-term procurement value.

Boots Retail Thailand’s Managing Director, Mark Koprowski, highlights the dual value proposition of this move: “We are proud to partner with DHL Supply Chain Thailand to introduce a fleet of 100% electric vehicles to deliver our medicines, healthcare and beauty products from our warehouse to local Boots stores daily.”

Mark adds that the partnership is aligned with broader business goals: “Thailand is increasingly focused on improving its air quality and this initiative not only supports this direction but also aligns with Boots' broader mission of integrating sustainability into every aspect of our business.

"We remain committed to reducing our carbon footprint by minimising emissions whilst ensuring the highest availability and quality of our products offered to our customers.”

Impact on sustainable retail supply chains

This fleet launch signals how procurement teams can use logistics as a tool for ESG compliance and environmental improvement.

Boots and DHL’s decision to invest in clean transport strengthens supply chain resilience, highlights the value of sustainable logistics in supplier partnerships and increases the competitive advantage of firms prioritising carbon reduction.

Logistics firms face mounting pressure to decarbonise last-mile delivery, the most emission-intensive segment of the supply chain.

Boots and DHL are proving that it is possible to meet environmental targets without compromising delivery performance or product availability.

The wider strategy at DHL includes deploying 30% sustainable fuel use globally by 2026 and reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.

Recent developments such as the opening of a fully renewable energy-powered warehouse and the rollout of Euro 5 standard trucks further reinforce this ambition.

Together, the two companies present a scalable model that other procurement and logistics teams can adopt.

By linking supplier selection criteria to ESG impact and logistics sustainability, businesses can turn policy into action and performance.

As the industry evolves, such strategic collaborations can influence transport regulations and supply chain standards, helping accelerate the transition to greener infrastructure across Asia and beyond.
