Bentley strengthens its commitment to responsible luxury, reinforcing ethical sourcing, animal welfare and sustainable forest management

Bentley Motors is showcasing its commitments to responsible luxury with the publication of its Raw Material Sourcing Policy Statement, strengthening existing standards across animal welfare, sustainable forest management and ethical supply chains, as part of the Beyond100+ strategy.

Bentley is successfully merging its heritage of extreme craftsmanship with a modern mandate for ethical responsibility. The marque’s updated Policy Statement establishes a rigorous framework for the materials handled at its Crewe headquarters, ensuring that every hide, fibre and veneer meets exacting environmental and social standards.

By aligning with the Volkswagen Group Responsible Raw Material Policy, Bentley applies a risk-based due diligence approach that prioritises transparency and continuous improvement across its intricate global supply chain.

Driving accountability through due diligence

This policy serves as a formal reinforcement of Bentley’s commitment to international human rights and environmental frameworks.

It acknowledges the inherent difficulty of managing multi-tier supply chains while mandating a culture of accountability.

Rather than settling for surface-level checks, the brand utilises a robust monitoring system to ensure that every partner in their network adheres to the same high ethical bar set by the manufacturer itself.

Elevating standards in animal welfare

At the heart of this transition is a significantly strengthened focus on animal welfare.

Bentley now requires all leather hides utilised in its vehicles to comply strictly with EU or equivalent national legislation. This compliance is not merely self-reported; it is backed by third-party verification and recognised certification schemes.

By clearly defining prohibited practices, Bentley ensures that its suppliers are held to a standard of ongoing reporting that leaves no room for ambiguity regarding the treatment of livestock.

Innovation in sustainable wood

The brand is also redefining luxury through the lens of sustainable forest management. Every wood veneer featured in a Bentley cabin must now satisfy the requirements of the UK Timber Regulations and the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Beyond simply sourcing from responsibly managed forests, the marque is investing in the future of material circularity.

This involves exploring recycled and reconstituted wood alternatives that deliver the brand’s signature aesthetic and quality without the environmental impact associated with traditional harvesting.

Marine Godot, Head of Sustainability and Materials, Bentley Motors, says: “True luxury today is defined not only by exceptional craftsmanship and performance, but by the values that sit behind every material choice.

"Our Responsible Raw Material Sourcing Policy reflects Bentley’s long-term commitment to responsible sourcing, animal welfare and sustainable supply chains, ensuring our products continue to embody responsible luxury for generations to come.”

Underpinning these commitments is a culture of leadership, accountability and collaboration. Bentley works closely with suppliers to embed responsible sourcing standards throughout its value chain, supported by regular risk assessments, training and transparent reporting.

Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser, Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors, adds: “Responsible luxury demands continual progress. This Policy Statement is a living document – one that will continue to evolve as legislation, industry expectations and our own understanding advance.

"By regularly reviewing and strengthening our approach to responsible raw material sourcing, we are ensuring that the highest standards of animal welfare, environmental stewardship and ethical sourcing remain firmly embedded at the heart of Bentley, today and for the future.”

The Beyond100+ strategy places sustainability at the core of the brand, redefining every aspect of the business to lead in sustainable luxury mobility. It secures Bentley’s long-term commitment to low carbon, responsible luxury, combining care for the environment with supporting people and innovation.
