The infrastructure leader will be supporting the UK public sector, aiding it in vital markets such as social infrastructure and defence, following new deal

AECOM, a trusted global infrastructure leader, has been appointed to the Government Commercial Agency (GCA) Construction Professional Services 2 (CPS2) Framework.

This marks the second time the company has been appointed to the four-year framework, securing a position on nine lots, as opposed to five in 2021.

Through this deal, central government departments and public sector bodies can directly access technical advisory, design and project management services across their building projects.

A significant procurement framework

AECOM is a global infrastructure leader, using deep technical abilities in order to solve complex challenges across water, environment, energy, transportation and buildings.

Across its organisation, it partners with a range of clients in order to create innovative and resilient solutions across the entire lifecycle. The solutions are applied across advisory, planning, design and engineering, as well as program and construction management.

The company has announced that it has been appointed to the GCA CPS2 Framework. CPS2 has a total value of US$4.7bn and acts as the main route for the UK public sector to procure construction services. Through the framework, bodies can securely gain access to standalone projects, multi-year capital programmes and more, reaching across a range of sectors including health, housing, energy and education.

The GCA is the UK's largest public procurement organisation, ensuring the public sector can get the most out of their money when buying goods and services. It is responsible for establishing and maintaining a portfolio of commercial agreements, working across public sector organisations to ensure best practise is followed. It holds businesses accountable to improve productivity and consistency across the sector.

A core aim is to mitigate supply chain risk throughout the public sector and stimulate economic growth. Its CPS2 Framework aims to provide access to advisory services across engineering projects across all scales and sizes, including flood risk and asset management, international projects and defence projects. The agreement runs across a four year period, with no option to extend, but AECOM has been appointed for the second time.

“As one of the largest procurement frameworks in the history of UK public sector consultancy, the scope and scale of CPS2 provides an important route to market for our multidisciplinary offerings in key sectors including energy, defense, social infrastructure, transportation and environment,” says Lara Poloni, AECOM’s President.

“We are delighted to not only secure our place on CPS2 but also increase our routes to market through our placement on the newly established lots for nuclear energy and flood risk & asset management. Our expanding role is indicative of both the strength of our expertise across our end markets and the growing value our clients see in our professional services offerings.”

Nine lots secured

In its 2021 assignment, AECOM secured five lots. This time, it has secured nine. These include:

  • General infrastructure - access to a range of expert construction professional services, supporting a variety of projects
  • Project management - access to project management services, helping across multidisciplinary teams, budgets, risk and compliance
  • Defense - aid across all stages of the lifecycle, with help across ensuring security-cleared staff, with policies in place to meet additional security requirements
  • Defense enhanced - delivers services across the lifecycle, with security-cleared staff and secure protocols
  • International - world-wide project lifecycle support, with clients in the the Ministry of Defence and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office
  • Nuclear energy - discrete delivery stages to support projects and requirements in the nuclear environment
  • Flood risk & asset management a, b and c - provides access to industry expert flood risk and asset management services across project lifecycle

“Our appointment to CPS2 is a significant step in deepening our relationship as a trusted partner with organisations across the UK public sector, including central government departments, local authorities and the Environment Agency,” says Richard Whitehead, Chief Executive of AECOM’s Europe & India region.

“CPS2 provides us with the opportunity to continue supporting the UK public sector in solving its most pressing challenges across infrastructure and the built environment, while also embedding wider social value into projects and programs and delivering significant value for UK taxpayers.”

Though it is early days for this new deal, AECOM securing it for the second time, with further gains, suggests the company is prepared to make significant contracts and work on a wide range of successful projects across the UK and around the world.
