How Mitsubishi Is Improving Its Port Logistics

Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) has enhanced its domestic logistics reach by entering a new deal with Port Freeport in Texas, while simultaneously deepening its long-standing strategic alliance with terminal operator AMPORTS.
Through this new sourcing agreement, the Japanese automaker can ensure the efficient distribution of its vehicles to North American dealerships throughout the Gulf Coast and Midwest.
Mitsubishi’s port operations
To maintain a streamlined supply chain process, AMPORTS' stevedoring teams will receive, process, accessorise and prepare Mitsubishi Motors' vehicles at Port Freeport prior to distribution.
Located in Texas, a major automotive market, Port Freeport will help improve delivery timelines and minimise costs by shortening inland transportation distances for the car manufacturer.
Ken Konieczka, Senior Vice President of Sales Operations at Mitsubishi Motors North America, says: "As we continue to focus our efforts on delivering Momentum 2030, our mid-term business plan, the addition of Port Freeport to our U.S. distribution system will be key to improving efficiency, reducing waste and speeding up deliveries to our dealer partners throughout the Gulf and the Midwest.
"This collaboration allows us to take advantage of a strategically located port and a coordinated set of services that support how we move vehicles today, and to set our network up for tomorrow."
In April 2026, Mitsubishi initiated its collaboration with Port Freeport, marked by the arrival of more than 500 vehicles.
The transportation of these vehicles to the port was managed by the Höegh Sunrise vessel.
Vee Kachroo, Chief Executive Officer of AMPORTS, said its continued relationship with Mitsubishi and now, Port Freeport, “reflects how collaboration can improve the flow of vehicles and strengthen the overall supply chain”.
This collaboration allows us to take advantage of a strategically located port and a coordinated set of services that support how we move vehicles today, and to set our network up for tomorrow.
Since 1983, Mitsubishi has maintained a close partnership with AMPORTS, providing centralised vehicle and accessorisation services.
The automaker also conducts port operations via AMPORTS hubs in several other US locations, such as the Port of Baltimore in Maryland, the Port of Jacksonville in Florida and the Port of Galveston in Texas.
Mitsubishi already provides extensive port and harbour transportation services across major domestic hubs throughout the world, including Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka and Kobe.
Mitsubishi’s future goals
As part of its “Momentum 2030” business plan, Mitsubishi’s port aligns with four main areas of focus for the upcoming fiscal year.
These priorities include advancing electrification, modernising the retail sales model, expanding the network to drive sales growth and strengthening Mitsubishi Motors in North America through a renewed and expanded product lineup.
In a 2024 dealer meeting, Mark Chaffin, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, spoke about aspects of the detailed plan, stating that the company “started to consider our path forward, and that plan brought us a new headquarters location in Tennessee; new vehicle launches that led to record Internet search results, sales records and brand successes; and outstanding dealer partners winning customer satisfaction awards.
“Momentum 2030 will build on that, setting the stage for new powertrains and vehicles being introduced, new dealerships being opened, and new technologies being developed to make the shopping and ownership experience faster, easier and more enjoyable.”
