DHL Manages Global Logistics for FIA Race Cars and Teams

International shipping company DHL is continuing its burgeoning relationship with FIA WEC (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile World Endurance Championship) as the company handles logistics for its race cars.
A new multiyear partnership designates DHL as the official logistics provider for the FIA WEC. This expanded agreement involves managing sourcing operations for vehicles participating in the Asian Le Mans Series and the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Felix Heger, CEO DHL Global Forwarding Germany and Switzerland says: "With the strong growth of the FIA World Endurance Championship and the increasing number of manufacturers, precise and scalable logistics are becoming ever more critical.
“Our partnership demonstrates how we jointly create the conditions for peak performance, both on and off the track.”
DHL’s role in logistics
DHL currently coordinates and executes the logistics of race cars and equipment needed for FIA events which includes:
- Consolidating shipments for multiple manufacturers and teams
- Transporting spare parts
- Garage infrastructure
- Broadcast equipment
- Large volumes of alternative fuels
In a standard FIA WEC season, DHL manages the logistics for every race, overseeing the movement of 36 cars, 120 containers and thousands of tires. This operation can involve up to seven aircraft charters for each intercontinental leg. To maintain peak efficiency, dedicated motorsport logistics experts are stationed at circuits globally.
Additionally, DHL prioritises sustainable practices by utilising a strategic mix of ocean and air freight tailored to the specific demands of the race schedule.
FrĂ©dĂ©ric Lequien, the CEO of the FIA World Endurance Championship adds: âWe are delighted to extend our successful relationship with DHL. As the FIA World Endurance Championship continues to grow, we count on the support of our trusted partners more than ever and DHL is truly an industry leader in logistics,"
âNot only that, but as a global series, we have a duty to minimise our carbon footprint and DHL wholeheartedly shares our commitment towards a more sustainable future. We look forward to continuing to work together closely over the years to come.â
The FIA championship stretches across numerous locations in Europe, North and South America, Asia and the Middle East. Participating auto manufacturers include: Alpine, Aston Martin, BMW, Cadillac, Corvette, Ferrari, Ford, Genesis, Lexus, McLaren, Mercedes, Peugeot, Porsche and Toyota.
Furthering sustainability and carbon emissions
Katharina Tomoff, the SVP for Global ESG at DHL, discussed the critical role of sustainability in reducing carbon emissions during a 2025 interview with Procurement Magazine.
âAt DHL, we approach environmental sustainability from a burn less, burn clean perspective. Driving optimisation through burn less levers like driver training or route optimisation can drive significant efficiency gains and generate cost savings,â Katharina says.
âWhere it can become more investment-heavy is burn clean lever, where we deploy sustainable fuels and technologies in our vehicle fleet. Globally, the costs are declining, but there are still wide differences in terms of availability and cost.
âOur GoGreen Plus Insetting solution allows customers to claim carbon savings from within the wider DHL Supply Chain road transport operations at a competitive cost, overcoming exactly the beforementioned access barriers. So innovation in the industry is also making sustainability more affordable.â
