Amazon Business: What is Amazon’s B2B Procurement Platform?

What is Amazon Business and Business Prime - Amazon’s B2B procurement solution?

Amazon Business is the B2B procurement solution from Amazon that provides millions of products and services with specific business pricing.  The familiar consumer site is extended to serve millions of business customers worldwide, with a flexible structure to all sizes of business.

The platform uses cloud technology to allow multiple users to manage spend from a central account.  This encompasses guided buying for compliance, and advanced spend analytics, enabling businesses customers to save time and money.

Where in the world has access to Amazon Business?

Amazon Business is currently available to customers in the USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, and India.

“We are entering a new era of smart business buying where senior leaders are understanding the impact procurement can have on efficiency and overall company success,” said Alexandre Gagnon, vice president of Amazon Business Worldwide.

“At Amazon Business, we develop scalable solutions for customers and solve their biggest procurement challenges, and I couldn’t be more excited about the evolution of procurement. The procurement function is now cross-disciplinary, spanning both functional and strategic purviews as buyers are planning to invest more in technology and optimization while future-proofing their companies and organisations.”

“Ultimately, procurement not only keeps operations running, but plays an integral role in achieving key organisational goals, and with smart business buying, companies have procurement solutions to serve as a growth lever for organisations.”

What is Amazon Business Prime?

After initially launching in the US in 2017, Amazon Business Prime is an extension of the procurement solution, Business Prime helps members visualise spend data and identify money-saving opportunities with Spend Visibility, as well as set policies to improve compliance and maximise their budget with Guided Buying.

The Business Prime procurement platform offers a range of extra features for business customers:

  • Spend Visibility: Powered by AWS QuickSight, Spend Visibility gives  spending visualisations in ready-to-present graphics. This gives customers the potential to free up the time it takes to download and analyse data and discover spending trends.
  • Guided Buying: Guided Buying lets account administrators identify certain preferred suppliers and products, restrict certain categories of buying, offer improved insights for buyers greater into company policies, reduce rogue spending, and improve compliance.
  • Extended Terms for Pay by Invoice: Qualifying customers can extend their payment terms to 45 or 60 days, depending on their Business Prime plan.

“Business Prime is designed to meet the complex needs of businesses, and we will continue innovating on behalf of customers to make their purchasing experience even more seamless,” said Cem Sibay, Vice President of Amazon Prime.

Millions of business customers from nine countries around the world currently purchase on Amazon Business more than 6 million active customers, 96 of the Fortune 100 companies and 90 of the 100 most populous local governments in the US.

“Business Prime enables customers to get the most out of the great selection, pricing and purchasing experience on Amazon Business,” said Dave Brittain, Head of Amazon Business at its launch in the UK. “Our goal is to help businesses drive even more transparency into their procurement process, while ultimately lowering their total cost of purchasing.”
