With this, a new breed of innovators are emerging to revolutionise the way organisations manage their purchasing processes. These rising stars of procurement orchestration are leveraging cutting-edge technologies and innovative strategies to streamline operations, enhance collaboration and drive unprecedented efficiency across the entire procurement lifecycle.

As businesses grapple with increasingly complex supply chains and the need for greater agility, procurement orchestration is becoming the tool for staying competitive.

Procurement Magazine takes a look at the innovative companies which are shaping the future of procurement orchestration.

Zip

2024 was a game-changing year for Zip, establishing procurement orchestration as essential for modern enterprises. The platform processed more than US$107bn in spend, collaborating with in excess of four million suppliers worldwide.

Major companies including HP, AMD and Anthropic streamlined operations using Zip, which also secured a record US$190m Series D funding round — the largest in procurement tech for two decades.

“When we introduced procurement orchestration in early 2024, it wasn’t just a new term – it was a new way of thinking,” explains Rujul Zaparde, Co-Founder and CEO at Zip.

“Now, leading analysts recognise it as a pivotal category and global enterprises have embraced it as the key to unlocking innovation. This shift is fuelled by tangible outcomes: driving savings, streamlining complexity and delivering unprecedented ease of use. And we’re just getting started.”

Zip’s P2P product saw triple growth, while new offices and tools like its AI suite and Zip Premier drove global expansion. Impressively, customers saved US$4.4bn and 4.6 million cycle-time days, affirming Zip’s pivotal role in business transformation.

Tonkean

CEO: Sagi Eliyahu
Founded: 2015

Tonkean’s AI-powered platform transforms procurement processes into user-friendly systems that teams actually follow. By simplifying traditionally complex workflows, it mimics the seamless, intuitive experience consumers expect.

“We have a lot of Fortune 500 companies using us for everything from purchase intake to invoice intake,” Sagi explained in an interview with Procurement Magazine earlier this year.

“This is in part because we leverage the tech stack, policies and processes that a company already has in place to improve adoption, speed and compliance, all without a lot of change.”

The platform boosts user adoption for P2P systems like Coupa and streamlines internal processes, reducing the challenges of change management. In partnership with Beroe, Tonkean now integrates real-time market and supplier intelligence directly into procurement workflows. This innovation enables cost-effective, compliant sourcing and proactive risk management from the first stages of intake.

With Tonkean, procurement teams achieve greater efficiency, compliance and user satisfaction, making it a groundbreaking tool for enterprise success.

Airbase offers an all-in-one spend management platform designed to provide finance teams with control, visibility and automation over their company's spending.

It caters specifically to mid-sized companies – those employing between 100 and 5,000 people.

Airbase’s innovative procure-to-pay platform delivers more control, visibility and automation to today’s finance teams than any other solution for companies with between 100 and 5,000 employees. Consistently rank at the top of the G2 Grid for procure-to-pay, spend management and AP Automation categories.

Thejo Kote, Founder and CEO of Airbase, says: “At Airbase, we recognise the strategic value that well-run procurement processes bring to an organisation. That’s why our spend analytics reveals opportunities to save money on purchasing and also identifies ways to reduce the operational costs associated with the procurement process itself.

“The mid-market and larger organisations we serve run complex businesses and must be armed to make critical, data-driven decisions fast. I’m proud that Airbase is the first to offer them the spend visibility and insights to do so on-demand and with ease. At Airbase, we’re on a mission to elevate the full procure, pay, close cycle and to set new benchmarks for company productivity and efficiency.”

In October, Paylocity, a leader in cloud-based HR and payroll software solutions, completed the acquisition of Airbase

The company addresses the long-standing challenges in complex procurement processes by streamlining workflows, centralising data and automating mundane tasks, enabling procurement teams to work more efficiently and strategically.

By integrating with existing systems, Focal Point provides a comprehensive view of supplier relationships, contracts and procurement activities.

“I started Focal Point to create a solution where procurement activities can be effectively tracked, big or small, whether that’s a complex request for proposal (RFP) to a contract renewal.

“With Focal Point, you know what’s being done, who’s doing it and can ensure the process is being followed with all the leave-behinds that someone in auditing would want there to be.”
