How o9 will Digitally Transform POSCO's Planning Processes
o9, which provides cutting-edge AI software, will work alongside the South Korean steel manufacturing company, POSCO, to digitally transform its supply master planning capabilities.
POSCO, the world’s seventh-largest integrated steel manufacturing company by production volume, was founded in 1968 and is headquartered in Pohang, South Korea.
The organisation holds global operations in various sectors, including steel production, energy, construction, engineering, battery materials and IT services. POSCO is known for its commitment to sustainability and technological innovation.
POSCO Sustainability
POSCO is promoting eco-friendly leadership, fostering a sustainable social community and practising an ESG management philosophy via an advanced management system.
As part of this commitment, it has developed five key Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives, encompassed under the keyword GREEN, a term symbolic of its focus on sustainable future materials.
As it implements and systematically manages these ESG commitments, POSCO has identified nine core areas linked to the GREEN framework.
These efforts are designed to build a consensus on ESG management practices throughout the organisation while enhancing and embedding employee understanding.
With the goal to take part in addressing social issues and contribute to fostering a more prosperous world and better tomorrow for humanity, since 2018, POSCO Group has been practising the management philosophy of sustainability.
Sustainability goes above and beyond the principles recommended in ESG management; its vision embraces coexistence and joint advancement with all stakeholders, as a means to generate greater corporate value and seek continuous growth.
POSCO's 2050 carbon neutrality declaration
POSCO wrote the “2050 Carbon Neutral Basic Roadmap” to add detail to its net zero vision and to act on mid to long-term strategies.
By transitioning to low-carbon steelmaking and enhancing its portfolio of low carbon products, it intends to get ahead in this race to the future market.
- Introduce electric furnaces and develop bridge technology to apply low-carbon processes to existing facilities
- Strengthen sales of low carbon products and make advance investments
- Build high-efficiency processes, i.e., smart and new breakthrough technologies
It is also implementing a low-carbon response strategy in three key areas, with green processes, green products and green partnerships.
By enlisting o9, POSCO will undertake a new initiative to digitally transform its business to enhance its sales and operations planning capabilities, as well as improve its customer experience and satisfaction.
Following a detailed assessment, POSCO picked o9 due to its capabilities to digitally integrate the business planning processes and its unique AI-powered platform with an easy-to-use interface.
The o9 platform, referred to as the “Digital Brain” of the enterprise, will enable POSCO to make more data-driven decisions by leveraging intelligent algorithms to create a digital twin of its business.
Giving POSCO access to run and evaluate multiple ‘what-if’ scenarios and connect all functional plans across all horizons on a single platform, facilitating end-to-end decision-making.
Chakri Gottemukkala, Co-Founder and CEO of o9, says: "Our AI-powered technology will enable POSCO to facilitate data-driven decisions and comprehensive scenario analysis.
“This partnership underscores our shared commitment to innovation and our shared vision for truly integrated business planning, which will significantly enhance POSCO's operational efficiency and customer experience."
