Coupa Inspire London: Driving Procurement Excellence With AI

Following its dynamic launch in Las Vegas, Coupa's Inspire tour made its impactful approach to London, catering to a focused audience with an agenda zeroing in on supply chain strategies.
At this event, Coupa's suite of procurement solutions was spotlighted, bringing to fore data-driven insights and artificial intelligence as major themes.
The gathering placed a particular emphasis on the transformative potential of data, AI and networking, encapsulated in speeches and success stories from executives and clients alike.
Uniting strategic and technical expertise, the event offered attendees actionable insights, living up to the promise of its name, Inspire.
Leadership's vision for procurement
Leagh Turner, Coupa's Chief Executive Officer, set an ambitious tone in her keynote address.
Rather than focusing solely on the platform's capabilities, she outlined a long-term vision paralleled with the aspirational spirit of John F. Kennedy's 1961 moon-landing pledge.
"Our vision is aspirational... it’s bold enough to stretch our imagination and yet it’s feasible enough to be credible," Leagh articulated.
Turner elaborated on Coupa's 19-year roadmap, aimed at creating a connected, AI-powered, multi-sided supply network that fosters buyer-supplier interactions without human intervention. Each transaction is crafted to enhance the next, establishing a cycle of continuous improvement.
"This is not fiction, this is reality like putting a man on the moon," she affirmed. "We have been building this network that powers the future of trade."
Coupa's goal transcends being a mere software provider by presenting itself as the backbone of a smarter, faster and more equitable commercial model.
Harnessing the Network Advantage
Joining Leagh on stage, Salva Lombardo, Coupa's Chief Product and Technology Officer, emphasised the critical role of network effects in procurement transformation.
"The network effect is what makes the difference," Salva stated, drawing parallels to LinkedIn's platform. Just as LinkedIn interconnects professionals, Coupa connects companies, vendors and procurement teams, enhancing the supply chain's intelligence.
Salva presented Coupa's evolution towards becoming a "data-driven AI company,” revealing that this transition is only at its inception. Coupa's strength is demonstrated by its vast network encompassing US$8 trillion in transactional data, a "data moat" that fuels large-scale predictive and profitable decision-making.
The systems and processes cover a comprehensive range from procurement design to payment. Lombardo acknowledged the need for enhancements in the supplier experience but highlighted the solid foundation and substantial scale already achieved with 3,200 customers and 10 million suppliers.
Celebrating client achievements in procurement
The highlight for many was Barclays’ success story, presented by Shalini Sahi, which demonstrated Coupa's impact on procurement processes.
"98% of our spend in Barclays globally is now through Coupa, which is roughly in the range of US$9bn," Shalini shared, a statement that received enthusiastic applause.
Beyond just volume, she noted that the optimised processes drastically reduced vendor onboarding times by 70% for low-risk categories while maintaining a supplier payment rate exceeding 95%, aligning with the company's strategic goals. The automation wasn't solely for its efficiency gains; it also allowed for the reallocation of internal resources towards higher-value, more strategic activities.
The captivated audience, including representatives from companies like Mastercard, Diageo, Nestlé, HSBC, DS Smith and AB InBev, recognised that Coupa's platform forms a crucial part of a broader evolution, restructuring global business frameworks around intelligence, collaboration and real-time data.
As the event progressed, Coupa Inspire London participants continued to seek out avenues for networking and intellectual challenges, invigorated by the potential of novel procurement strategies.
