TotalEnergies Secures 15-Year Renewable Power Supply Deal

In an announcement made by TotalEnergies, the energy leader has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement contract with STMicroelectronics – a global semiconductor provider – to supply renewable electricity to the manufacturer's sites in France.
The contract will represent an overall volume of 1.5TWh. The renewable power provided will come from two wind and solar farms operated by TotalEnergies and will come with structuration services to transform intermittent production in a constant volume (baseload) of green electricity.
A first for France
The deal marks a first for France to have secured a 15-year contract of this kind. The positive impact of the wind and solar projects on the environment and on the communities was a key success factor in the signing of the deal.

“This first PPA in France marks yet another important step towards ST’s goal of becoming carbon neutral in its operations (Scope 1 and 2 emissions - and partially Scope 3) by 2027, including the sourcing of 100% renewable energy by 2027,” adds Geoff West, EVP and Chief Procurement Officer at STMicroelectronics.
“PPAs will play a major role in our transition, and we have already signed several to support ST’s operations in Italy and Malaysia. Starting in 2025, this PPA with TotalEnergies will provide a significant level of renewable energy for ST’s operations in France, which includes R&D, design, sales and marketing and large-volume chip manufacturing.”
What does this deal mean for France?
With this deal, the two organisations further support France’s goals of increasing its renewable energy adoption, and will significantly contribute to its clean energy transition.
STMicroelectronics, being a major semiconductor manufacturer in France will play its part in the transition with this deal marking a step towards 100% renewable energy by 2027.
The deal also reduces the company’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions furthering the carbon reduction of the industrial sector in France.
In addition, the deal is expected to support local communities, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, lower energy price volatility and enhance energy security in France. It also strengthens TotalEnergies position as a leader in France’s energy transition.
