Schneider Electric and the power of transformation

Schneider Electric is currently embarking on a three-year transformation initiative centred on four critical areas: people, planet, customers and performance.

This approach underscores the role of advanced technologies in supply chain management, particularly the integration of AI. Simon noted; "Schneider Electric's innovative culture has embraced AI in a manner that embraces employee ideas for use cases, with guidance from supply chain leaders on the highest priority areas to apply the technology for customer, revenue and productivity gains."

Such strategic use of AI ensures a collaborative approach to deployments, prioritising enhancements in customer service, revenue generation and productivity within procurement processes.

Key supply chain trends

As we move towards 2025, supply chain leaders are focusing on three significant trends.

First, the emergence of Agentic AI as a transformative tool is proving crucial for procurement specialists.

The technology enhances operations by automating decision-making processes, which traditionally required significant human input. Agentic AI facilitates dynamic demand forecasting, supplier selection and route optimisation, offering a paradigm shift in procurement efficiency.

Secondly, autonomous operations are becoming more prevalent in sophisticated supply chain environments.

These systems orchestrate various activities simultaneously, resulting in substantial productivity improvements while ensuring operational safety. By automating traditional monitoring and process optimisation tasks, these systems allow procurement professionals to focus on strategic decision-making.

The third trend revolves around sustainability, particularly water stewardship, which is now recognised as a strategic imperative within supply chains. Many leading organisations have incorporated comprehensive water management strategies, aligning their supply chain decisions with broader environmental goals.

This involves assessing water sources, discharge patterns and regulatory compliance to ensure the resilience of supply chain operations while mitigating risks associated with water usage.

The Gartner Top 25 showcases companies that are at the forefront of these trends.

From utilising advanced AI technologies to integrating sustainable practices, these organisations demonstrate the future direction of supply chain management, making it a priority to optimise operations, minimise costs and enhance resilience against potential disruptions.

For procurement executives, understanding and leveraging these trends will be crucial in navigating the complexities of modern supply chains. With the ability to adapt and integrate innovative technologies, leading companies are setting new benchmarks for supply chain efficiency and sustainability.
