Rachel Henney: Procurement and the lean management system

April 2022, Procurement Magazine, Supply Chain Digital and Bizclik Media Group returned to the Tobacco Dock (London) to host our second Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE. 

Dubbed ‘The Risk & Resilience Conference’ the two-day hybrid event was held on the 27th and 28th of April, featuring keynotes, roundtables, Q&As, and 1-2-1s from inspirational and knowledgeable leaders in the procurement and supply chain space.

Procurement and the lean management system

During her presentation at Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE, Rachel Henney, Head of Supplier Management and Risk at Atlassian discussed how her former workplace - The Standard - is leveraging a lean management system in order to facilitate continuous improvement and growth.

Kickstarting the discussion Henney reflected on how the company incorporated lean management into its operations to define a clear roadmap toward its vision. 

“First, we needed to set that long-term vision, then we defined associated guiding principles that would get us to our first north star. Our vision is our long-term objective and in order to get there, we needed to set near-term targets supported by key strategic initiatives or objectives,” explained Henney. 

“In order to ensure we monitor that impact on our ultimate outcomes, we'd need clear metrics focused on four lean principle components - delivery, productivity, quality and morale.”
