GEP's Copeland shares procurement decision-making secrets

Speaking at Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE Graham Copeland of GEP Worldwide spoke of the power of matrices in quality procurement decision making

In April 2022, Procurement Magazine, Supply Chain Digital and Bizclik Media Group returned to London's Tobacco Dock to host our second Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE.

Dubbed ‘The Risk & Resilience Conference’ the two-day hybrid event featured keynotes, roundtables, Q&As, and networking opportunities with inspirational and knowledgeable leaders in the procurement and supply chain space.

Graham Copeland is Senior Director Business Development for GEP Worldwide, and he delivered a keynote on the power of matrices in procurement decision-making.

Matrices help procurement with decision making

He told his audience: “A two-by-two matrix allows you to compare, contrast and evaluate options for any particular problem statement you have. It helps people discuss, debate, prioritise resources, prioritise solutions, prioritise tactics to try and do the right thing with their supply chains or procurement.”

He continued: “In the 1980s, procurement was largely an administrative function, and then there was the emergence of academic thinking in the automotive industry around how to get more value from suppliers and supply chains.

“This was the beginning of matrices being used to allow buyers and supply chain professionals to prioritise categories and resources into one of four boxes, to identify what type of relationship and what type of improvement activities you should do with your supply chain.”
