PUMA has strengthened its partnership with AutoStore to boost supply chain efficiency, opening a state-of-the-art distribution centre in Phoenix, Arizona

PUMA is taking significant steps to improve its supply chain efficiency by deepening its collaboration with automated storage pioneer AutoStore and systems integrator Bastian Solutions. At the heart of this effort is the implementation of AutoStore’s advanced storage and retrieval systems at PUMA’s newly opened distribution centre in Phoenix, Arizona.

The launch of this facility was marked by a grand opening celebration attended by Bob Philion, President of PUMA North America, alongside AutoStore and Bastian Solutions executives, with Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, joining the event.

She highlighted the broader impact of this investment, saying: “PUMA’s new facility showcases the integral role Arizona plays in our country’s growing and thriving economy.

"We are grateful that PUMA, one of the world’s most recognisable brands, has chosen Arizona, furthering our reputation as a premier logistics hub supporting global companies.”

This new facility aims to double PUMA’s daily order fulfilment capacity, from 100,000 to 200,000 orders, a feat made possible through advanced automation. As ecommerce sales are expected to surpass US$8tn by 2027, manufacturers like PUMA need streamlined fulfilment processes to stay competitive.

How AutoStore powers PUMA’s growth

Central to PUMA’s fulfilment strategy is AutoStore’s cube-based modular storage system. The solution employs robots and cutting-edge software to optimise warehouse operations by enhancing speed, accuracy and energy efficiency.

PUMA has leveraged AutoStore’s technology since 2015, deploying it in distribution centres across Indiana and California. The results have been transformative, allowing PUMA to:

  • Increase fulfilment accuracy to 99%
  • Improve delivery times from two weeks to same-day shipping
  • Scale warehouse capacity by 10x during peak demand periods
  • Ship up to 150,000 units daily
  • Reduce energy costs by up to 85%

We are grateful to the team at PUMA for our ongoing collaboration and for trusting us to provide a fulfilment solution that meets the evolving demands of customer service.”

Bastian Solutions: Connecting the dots

Bastian Solutions, a key partner in PUMA’s automation journey, plays an integrative role in bringing AutoStore’s technology to life within PUMA’s facilities. By bridging the gap between technology and operations, Bastian Solutions has been instrumental in ensuring seamless implementation.

Aaron Jones, CEO of Bastian Solutions, highlights the strength of this collaboration: “At Bastian Solutions, we take pride in our long-standing partnership with AutoStore, having integrated more than 100 of their systems across various industries.

Our collaboration with PUMA showcases the power of innovation and customer-centric solutions to drive performance and efficiency.”

Fulfilling “forever faster”

PUMA’s commitment to efficiency is embodied in its mantra, “Forever Faster.” According to Bob, this philosophy extends beyond athletic performance to operational excellence.

“At PUMA, our mantra is forever faster, and that includes getting our products in the hands of our customers. AutoStore enables us to be the fastest we’ve ever been,” he says.

Bob Philion, PUMA North America President

“With the rise of ecommerce, we’re seeing a higher volume of orders moving through our facilities, in addition to more frequent surges in demand. Our continued partnership with AutoStore and Bastian Solutions allows us to maintain this rapid pace while ensuring every order is fulfilled accurately and efficiently.”

As PUMA rolls out these solutions to its Phoenix facility, the company is poised to take its supply chain operations to the next level, ensuring it stays ahead in a fast-changing, high-demand marketplace.
