Consumer demand driving change

Supply chain strategy has shifted over the years. Sustainability is no longer seen merely as an added bonus but rather as a strategic necessity. With climate events becoming more regular and potentially more destructive, businesses are opting to work harder to reduce emissions.

They are also supporting suppliers in their own efforts. This strategic shift is also a response to an increasing consumer demand for more overtly labelled sustainable produce.

According to a 2025 Euromonitor Voice of the Consumer report, 25% of consumers focus on waste reduction, circularity, recycling and repairing. Similarly, the report indicates that approximately 25% of consumers have stated they would pay more for products that clearly display certifications, sustainable impact and fair labour practices.

The way businesses operate is changing as organisations around the world see the environmental benefit of their changes. There is also potential economic value that could come alongside these shifts. Organisations could grow in reputational gain, whereas businesses which fail to adopt clear sustainability measures across their supply chains could be more likely to witness financial losses.
