How are Procurement Leaders Tackling Net Zero Commitments?

As the world aligns with the Paris Agreement, the race toward net zero emissions by 2050 is on.
This urgent global initiative is critical to mitigate irreversible climate change and extreme weather events that could endanger supply chains and procurement processes.
At Sustainability LIVE NYC 2025, a premier event in climate discussions, executives from Amazon Web Services (AWS), Signify, the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team and Atlassian will participate in the panel, "The Route to Net Zero," to deliberate on overcoming the challenges of this transition.
Procurement’s role in achieving net zero
AWS targets net zero through innovative infrastructure, expanding its electric vehicle fleet, transitioning to carbon-free electricity and fostering a circular economy.
Kara Hurst, Chief Sustainability Officer at Amazon, said in a statement: “While we are firm on our goals, our approach will continuously evolve with emerging challenges and opportunities, as we’re seeing with the rapid adoption of AI.
“No matter what we’re faced with in the future, we’ll remain steadfast in our commitment to sustainability and will continue to invest, innovate and obsess over our progress each year, with the same intensity and focus that has defined Amazon from day one.”
Signify is actively collaborating with its suppliers to reduce carbon footprints, while also initiating sustainable transformations beyond operational boundaries.
As Tempelman CEO at Signify, says: “Looking to the future, I believe there is a real opportunity to grow.
“Building on existing strengths, unlocking new possibilities and continuing to lead the way in lighting and beyond, improving lives for people and communities around the world.”
Carbon removals and renewable energy
Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team is optimising its operations to meet sustainability goals by investing in carbon removals and adopting pioneering technology solutions.
“We are determined to lead by example in the pursuit of sustainability,” explains Toto Wolff, Team Principal and CEO, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team.
“We’re excited about the growth of our sport in the United States and committed to supporting projects there as we work towards our goals."
Atlassian has achieved 100% coverage of its electricity use via a virtual power purchase agreement that funds a wind farm in Texas.
"So much of our climate, human rights, foundation and social impact work is about making sure that what we're doing reflects our values,” Jessica Hyman, Chief Sustainability Officer at Atlassian says.
“Our founders started Atlassian with a vision of making sure that we do the right thing, that we take responsibility and that we set ourselves up to be a hundred-year business.
“So all of these commitments are really authentic, and we really are putting in the hard yards when it comes to achieving them and then being open about when we've got headwinds in our way."
Engaging with industry leaders
This panel will dissect the complexities of the journey to net zero. Panellists are slated to share strategies, innovations and systematic changes needed to decarbonise entire value chains, crucial for procurement leaders aiming to enhance sustainability in their operations.
Featuring key figures such as Chris Walker, Director, Sustainability at AWS, and Maurice Loosschilder, Global Head of Sustainability at Signify, among others, the panel will provide insights into how leading companies are addressing emissions.
Discussions will cover renewable energy transitions, carbon offsetting, and adhering to science-based targets.
The event, hosted during Climate Week NYC 2025, focuses on climate leadership with a strong emphasis on actionable insights and collaboration among sustainability advocates.
Attendees will garner practical takeaways for climate action and procurement strategies to foster sustainable business practices.
