Through a fleet of new AI announcements, SAP Ariba is evolving, helping teams focus on higher value work as it advances its spend management solution

In a time where disruption and uncertainty dominates, enabling a company to actively control an area like spend is more vital than ever. Especially as teams are expected to deliver not just savings, but also resilience, sustainability and risk-aware processes.

At SAP Connect, then just a day later at DPW Amsterdam, Baber Farooq, Senior Vice President, Product Marketing SAP Ariba & SAP Fieldglass took to the stage to introduce the next generation of SAP Ariba.

Baber emphasised for AI-driven engagement over traditional e-commerce-style interfaces - highlighting procurement's evolution from back-office function to business resilience driver amid global uncertainty.

The new system features seamlessly embedded AI that senses, reasons and acts autonomously across applications.

Key benefits include cross-application agents, automated workflows and consistent user experiences across the entire suite.

Its new range of AI capabilities will give teams stronger automation, deeper integration and smarter insights in its spend management solutions.

These tools are tailored to improve outcomes, reduce risks and strengthen supply chains, increasing productivity and freeing up people to focus on higher-value work. This ensures that spend continues to fulfil its elevated role as a driving force behind a business' growth and resilience, while helping customers keep ahead of evolving demands.

The next generation of SAP Ariba promises to deliver deeper AI integrations, alongside new AI assistants in Joule, rolling out solutions for source-to-pay to automate the power of procurement, improve cost savings, ensure compliance and build supply chain resilience.

Speaking on stage, Baber said: "AI is not important for the sake of itself. It's only important in service of what matters: the outcomes it can deliver, such as mitigating risk, improving productivity, strengthening supply chains, amplifying value and freeing up people to do more important work."

The next-gen SAP Ariba is set to be the world's most modern source-to-pay solution designed to power the future of procurement.

This comes at a vital time as an Economist Impact study, sponsored by SAP, found that 89% of procurement professionals feel confident in their ability to leverage AI to drive efficiency and productivity.

This finding highlights the urgency of the challenge, and the optimism around AI's potential to strengthen resilience.

SAP calls it the first AI-native source-to-pay suite, saying it will redefine the possibilities of today and define the course for the future.

As businesses still tackle continuous challenges, SAP customers will be able to harness the power of a solution that has been formed to endure – boasting a tool that has intelligence, is integrated and is scalable. The capabilities that are part of SAP's next-gen solution will give businesses the power to not only tackle the challenges presented today, but excel into the future.

Baber added: "What has gotten us here won't get us there, and the evolution needs to continue because, at the same time research shows that procurement is being asked to continuously deliver more value, and that their current systems are slowing them down. That's where we come in, we have to respond with you."

The next generation of SAP Ariba is formed on SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), which has been fully redesigned for user experience, and to provide embedded analytics and seamless integration with SAP Cloud ERP public and private applications.

Next-gen platform delivers accelerated value

The advanced capabilities and benefits of next-gen SAP Ariba solutions include:

Accelerated value realisation: Faster adoption with intuitive interfaces and guided workflows

Deeper insights: Actionable analytics that translate into tangible savings and operational improvements

Empowered teams: A more productive experience for procurement professionals

The new solutions will be rolled out starting in Q1 2026.

SAP has also introduced new agentic and generative AI capabilities within the SAP Ariba suite to aid organisations with their productivity and decision-making.

A release planned for Q1 2025, as well as a new Joule Agent for bid analysis that automatically compares supplier bid data including total costs, gives procurement teams insight and recommendations for award decisions.

SAP has also added three AI features to the SAP Ariba procurement portfolio:

AI supplier-response summary will use Joule to help review, analyse and summarise supplier responses to questionnaires, helping procurement specialists make more informed decisions. This is planned to be generally available in Q1 2026.

Joule for simplified invoice creation will help employees outside accounts payable to easily submit invoices from SAP Cloud ERP for processing with minimal input. The feature will be generally available in Q4 2025.

Intelligent contracting will use Joule to automatically extract key information, generate summaries and search historical contracts for discrepancies and compliance issues. This feature will be generally available in Q4 2025.

As part of the broader SAP Ariba portfolio, SAP Ariba Intake Management is now globally available. The solution provides a single-entry point for all procurement requests to simplify intake, improve compliance and give employees full visibility into status updates.

With Joule, users can easily submit requests or follow guided steps, while the system orchestrates processes across SAP and non-SAP systems.

Baber concluded by saying: "At every point the system is sensing across the suite, reasoning across the suite and actioning throughout the entire process - what the AI can fill for you, it is filling for you. It is not waiting to get your permission. It is not waiting to get invoked and through this, we are achieving the next generation of SAP Ariba."

AI-powered expense controls strengthen fraud prevention

SAP Concur has introduced several AI capabilities designed to strengthen expense management controls and enhance user experience:

Receipt analysis agent: This newly embedded Joule Agent within ExpenseIt, a tool which allows users to take photos of receipts and send them directly to Concur Expense, goes beyond traditional receipt scanning to automatically complete missing information, categorise expenses and verify vendor details—even for unfamiliar suppliers. The feature requires no iterative learning and is expected to reach general availability in Q4 2025.

AI-powered fraud detection: The Verify audit service now includes an AI-generated receipt checker that identifies receipts potentially created by AI or online generators, helping auditors prevent fraudulent claims. This capability is currently available.

Pre-spend planning tool: Using generative AI, this solution estimates trip budgets based on corporate policies and travel itineraries while providing relevant travel advisories. Concur Expense customers will gain access at no additional cost in early 2026, with availability for Concur Travel customers following in the first half of 2026.

SAP Concur has deepened its integration with Uber for Business to automate ride and meal expense handling. Receipts now flow automatically into Concur Expense with comprehensive tax, tip and itemisation data, reducing manual corrections and accelerating reimbursement cycles.

These innovations across procurement, workforce management and travel expense represent SAP's continued commitment to helping organisations reduce costs, mitigate risk, strengthen supply chains and enable employees to focus on strategic, high-value activities.

Current SAP Ariba customers will receive access at no additional cost, with parallel testing capabilities. The platform launches Q1 2026, with migration tools to ease transition without reimplementation.
