With an expansive portfolio of technology, HP is striving to deliver innovative tools globally while ensuring a positive impact.
Its report details HP's progress towards sustainability goals, credited largely to the integration of circularity across its supply chains.
Embedding change in procurement
HP operates in more than 170 countries, boasting over 320 Digital Hubs across 14 nations.
Having been in business for over 80 years, HP demonstrates that profitability and a positive global impact can coexist. Through its digital equity programmes, HP has impacted 65 million individuals since 2021, fostering economic and educational advancements worldwide.
HP's commitment to innovation and support for individuals aiming for change in the world aligns with its numerous awards for sustainable and ethical practices.
These accolades highlight procurement's role in supporting ethical business practices and circular economy performance.
Enrique Lores, President and CEO of HP, says: "We are helping companies utilise innovative technology as more than a productivity tool but a fulfillment platform, grounded in our belief that technology can help companies deliver growth and fulfillment.
"At the same time, we are transforming our value chain to embed sustainability and strengthen resilience across our global operations and supply chain."
Sustainability through supply chains
The report details HP’s methods of integrating sustainability into its supply chains.
Efforts have led to a 46% reduction in CO₂ emissions from product use since 2019, now accounting for 25% of HP's total emissions. HP’s sustainable practices, driven by procurement, also include embedding renewability and digital access globally.
Since 2022, the company's digital equity accelerator has reached over 9.1 million people across nine countries.
These initiatives empower underserved youth with essential digital and AI tools, demonstrating the intersection of sustainable supply chains and social impact.
Grant Hoffman, SVP, Global Head of Operations and Portfolio - HP Solutions, adds: "Since 2019, we’ve achieved a 41% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 operational greenhouse gas emissions, driven by improved energy efficiency and increased adoption of renewable electricity. In 2024, 100% renewable electricity powered all HP operations in the US."
Fostering circularity
Since 2019, HP has utilised over 4 billion pounds of reusable, recycled, or renewable materials in its products and packaging.
The focus on repair, recovery, reuse and recycling not only extends the lifecycle of its products but also reduces end-of-life impacts.
HP aims for 75% circularity in products and packaging by 2030, currently standing at 43%. Through innovative recycling, HP converts ocean-bound plastics into new material solutions, showcasing procurement's essential role in circular economy transformation.
The HP HOPE program exemplifies circular practices by repurposing and redistributing devices. By preventing e-waste and fostering technology reuse, HP significantly contributes to reducing the digital divide globally.
Grant adds: "Every milestone we achieve in sustainability is a reminder of what’s possible when innovation meets responsibility.
"The newly released HP 2024 Sustainable Impact Report shows our progress toward building a cleaner, more circular future.
"Solutions such as HP Hope and our circular services are keeping technology in use longer, reducing e-waste while helping close the digital divide.
"Sustainability isn’t just a box to check off for us. It’s embedded into our ethos, impacting how we design, produce and partner for impact. Together with our customers and suppliers, we’re accelerating toward our 2030 and 2040 goals."
HP's sustainability journey solidifies the role of procurement in building resilient, ethical and sustainable supply chains, ensuring lasting positive impacts on both people and the planet.
