Civil engineering company EXP provides engineering, architecture, design and consulting services, with more than 4,700 professionals across North America.

The firm works on providing solutions through its projects that help build sustainable and resilient infrastructure to improve communities, making it an important partner for organisations seeking to align their procurement strategies with environmental goals.

How procurement teams can engage with sustainable suppliers

EXP aims to promote sustainable practices throughout its operations, for its clients, in the workplace and in its communities.

For procurement professionals, understanding how suppliers approach sustainability could inform better purchasing decisions.

The company's targets are formed from the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including a focus on sustainable building and environmental action.

For example, EXP is following the SDGs of achieving the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources and substantially reducing waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.

Between 2020 and 2024, EXP has saved 2,353 trees from reduced printing, as well as using paper and wood products certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

The firm has also prioritised the sustainable design and use of recycled content in its offices, including using carpet and flooring with high percentages of recycled material.

Ivan Dvorak, Chairman and CEO at EXP, says: "Sustainability is woven into the fabric of who we are.
