How Consumer Tech Transforms Procurement at Speed

In fast-paced consumer tech, procurement cannot afford to fall behind.
Fast-moving consumer technology companies demand agility, speed and precision.
At Deliveroo, the procurement function faced a challenge that many others can attest to - to prove its value or risk being sidelined.
In response, CPO Rob Turner drove a dual transformation - building a global digital procurement system while delivering more than US$50m in cost benefits in under 18 months.
In his keynote at Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE London 2025, Rob Turner, Chief Procurement Officer at Deliveroo, will show how his team tackled a major transformation that delivered rapid impact without compromising quality.
The session, "Transformation at Pace: How Procurement Took the Lead in a Consumer Tech Business", runs from 15:25 to 15:50 on 23 September 2025. It forms part of the Procurement Stage programme at Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE London.
The keynote explores how Deliveroo’s procurement team rebuilds credibility by delivering real results, fast. Attendees will hear how the function moves from reactive service to strategic leadership, proving that procurement is not just an enabler but a growth catalyst.
Rob shares: "This is a real-world story of moving fast without cutting corners.
“It’s about building credibility through delivery, aligning cross-functional stakeholders, and proving that Procurement can take the lead in creating value and capability at speed."
The emphasis is not just on systems or savings, but on mindset — showing how speed and structure can co-exist when transformation is well-led and supported across the business.
Deliverooâs transformation story
Deliveroo operates a hyperlocal digital marketplace that connects consumers with restaurants and merchants for fast, convenient delivery.
In this competitive, technology-led market, procurement must match the businessâs operational pace while controlling cost and risk.
When Rob joined the business, procurement was underperforming. Expectations were not being met and there was a clear gap between what the function delivered and what the organisation needs.
With 30 yearsâ experience across procurement and operations, Rob brought a track record of transformation and delivery. He started his procurement career at PepsiCo in 2001 after working in manufacturing. His first CPO role at Tarmac included leading supply chain and M&A integration during a joint venture with Lafarge.
He went on to lead a procurement transformation at John Lewis, including implementing a full-scale digital system and new operating model using Coupa. He later applied this expertise to Amazon Fresh, helping build the procurement function for its UK stores.
Lessons from rapid transformation
Rob's keynote is designed for procurement and supply professionals facing similar pressures. Whether operating in tech, retail or any fast-scaling sector, the story of Deliverooâs transformation offers tangible lessons for building impact and credibility.
Rob will outline how to bring internal stakeholders on the journey, align procurement with commercial outcomes and embed change that sticks.
"This is about delivering at pace, not just moving fast. You need the systems, the people and the support to get it right," he explains.
The transformation at Deliveroo offers a blueprint for those looking to make procurement central to value creation â not just cost control. With a focus on delivery, structure and adaptability, the session aims to show what is possible when procurement acts with purpose and is empowered to lead.
Attendees can expect practical insights, proven frameworks and first-hand reflections from a CPO who has navigated procurement through change in multiple high-pressure environments.
Whether youâre planning your own transformation or looking to strengthen procurementâs strategic role in the business, this session delivers clear takeaways you can apply immediately.
