How AI is Reshaping the Modern Procurement Landscape

AI continues to reshape the way in which procurement operates. From supplier management to decision-making, the technology continues to change the way in which procurement works – with its development continuing in real time.
As complexity continues to take a hold, with once-in-a-generation disruptions happening with far more frequency, there is a real drive from teams to make the world a more AI-driven environment.
Gartner's top supply chain technology trends for 2026, explores AI technologies that are reshaping supply chain management. The research firm says advances in AI technologies, spanning physical and agentic AI, are enabling supply chain and procurement professionals to drive business value, strengthen resilience and reimagine operating models.
Christian Titze, VP Analyst and Chief of Research in Gartner’s Supply Chain practice, says: “This year’s trends highlight the growing role of AI as the foundation for more autonomous, intelligent and adaptive supply chains.
“As organisations move toward hyperconnected, AI-driven environments, leaders must focus not only on deploying advanced technologies, but also on ensuring they work together to deliver measurable value and long-term resilience.”

Quantifying the AI Advantage
Keelvar published its survey of procurement leaders from around the world and found that companies that adopted AI or automated sourcing over the past year were 3.7 times more resilient against major demand drops during geopolitical and tariff shocks. Because they also consistently maintained or grew their demand regardless of the crisis, this resilience represents a permanent structural advantage rather than a temporary stroke of luck.
The Hackett Group’s own report found that artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the procurement landscape. In fact, 64% of procurement leaders expect AI and Gen AI to fundamentally transform their roles over the next five years.
The topics of transformation will be at the heart of a webinar, The Future of Procurement Teams in an AI-Driven World, taking place on November 10, 4:00 PM — 5:00 PM BST. Register now to avoid missing out.
