Roger Larsh, Chief Procurement Officer at RSCS, the supply chain arm of Yum! Brands, says: "LightSource has delivered faster decision making and meaningful cost improvements. The team has worked closely with us to understand our business, ensuring that the platform solves our current needs while proactively developing useful enhancements.

"In order to do this, we need to deliver solid UX while unlocking data interoperability and AI-powered functionality that can be easily mobilised by buyers, suppliers and everyone that touches sourcing and procurement."

Tariff mitigation

LightSource also offers a range of tools when it comes to addressing tariff uncertainty.

Its AI value propositions for tariff mitigation include:

1. Supplier diversification

LightSource AI facilitates the addition of new suppliers, reducing the stress associated with supplier disruption and offering unique capabilities to manage and mitigate these disruptions. Expanding the supplier base across multiple regions can reduce reliance on any single market or region, and mitigate risks associated with tariffs.

2. Reshoring/nearshoring

LightSource is positioned to manage and mitigate supplier disruption and can facilitate the addition of new suppliers, which is essential when considering alternatives like reshoring or nearshoring due to factors like tariffs. Supplier changes can be quite disruptive and risky. LightSource allows companies to make this change faster and less risky by giving them a structure for the re-sourcing. This gives them continuity across their items being sourced, historical data and baselines from previous suppliers that they can compare to, and a robust system for collecting both quantitative and qualitative data. They can also use LightSource RFIs to run quality workflows (e.g. PPAP) when bringing on a new supplier.

3. Alternate

While cost is a key factor, LightSource also facilitates collaboration and communication with suppliers on operational aspects like timelines and item details. This enables a more holistic understanding of supplier capabilities and relationships.

4. Enhanced decision-making

LightSource AI offers real-time BOM tracking, analytics and scenario planning to enhance visibility and enable data-driven decision-making. AI-powered bid analysis helps to get the best value for money by analysing bids and comparing them to each other. LightSource AI is a centralised platform for all procurement data, enabling data-driven insights and better informed decisions.

5. Contract negotiation

LightSource AI can be used to renegotiate contracts with suppliers to help mitigate cost increases and ensure supply continuity.

Global expansion on the horizon

Spencer and Idan have big plans, one of which is for LightSource to become the OS for procurement and sourcing on a global scale.

Most of LightSource's current users work within six domains: automotive, aerospace and defence, chemicals, consumer electronics, retail and apparel and industrial food. They include Bombardier, Ford, HelloFresh, Serta Simmons, Canada Goose and McKinsey.

With the goal of continued growth, Spencer and Idan are looking to scale teams, upgrade their tech and boost customer onboarding through industry engagement, taking LightSource to procurement teams everywhere.
