Procurement leaders can now consolidate breakroom spend and perishables into a single-cart experience as Amazon Business scales its fresh grocery offering

Amazon Business has officially launched Same-Day Delivery for fresh groceries, fulfilling a top request from its professional clientele.

From schools and offices to gyms and salons, businesses in more than 2,300 US cities can now order perishables, including produce, dairy and frozen goods, alongside their standard supplies. This expansion integrates thousands of local and national grocery brands directly into the existing Amazon Business marketplace.

Amazon has seen a strong response to its offering of fresh grocery delivery to its customers, so it will now provide this to its business customers.

Given that Amazon’s Grocery Business is now the second largest grocer in the US, it holds more than US$150bn in gross sales. With this, Amazon has built itself a service which offers a wide selection, along with consistently low everyday prices and fast delivery.

Streamlining tail spend and vendor consolidation

Business customers can enjoy an all-in-one ordering experience for their wide-ranging business needs, whether it's bagels for a client meeting, milk and cream to keep the coffee bar stocked or fresh fruit for meetings.

As business customers look to simplify their buying, Amazon Business is focused on offering a wide selection of national and local brands, including organic and natural options, at an incredible value.

“We’re continuously innovating to make business buying simpler, faster, and more cost-effective for our customers,” says Shelley Salomon, VP Amazon Business.

“Our customers have been asking for an easier way to order fresh groceries alongside the everyday business essentials they rely on to run their operations.

By adding fresh groceries to the already expansive selection Amazon Business offers, organisations can now combine items like copy paper and printer ink with milk, fruit and other breakroom staples, check out with a single cart, and have everything delivered to their workplace within hours.”

Beyond the convenience of snacks and staples, this move represents a significant opportunity for tail spend management and vendor consolidation.

By integrating perishables into a single-cart experience, procurement departments can bring historically fragmented "breakroom spend", often hidden in unmanaged employee expense reports or P-Card transactions, under a single, auditable umbrella.

This consolidation enhances data visibility and ensures that grocery purchases are subject to the same guided buying policies and approval workflows as industrial supplies or IT hardware. Ultimately, this shift helps organisations reduce the administrative burden on accounts payable while mitigating the risks associated with food safety and decentralised sourcing.

Quality assurance in the supply chain

Amazon Business streamlines grocery procurement by allowing customers to schedule delivery windows that match their specific operating hours.

This ensures that perishable goods are received and stored immediately upon arrival. To maintain high standards, Amazon utilises a specialised temperature-controlled fulfilment network where every item must pass a rigorous six-point quality inspection before delivery.

This commitment to quality is further reinforced by the Amazon Freshness Guarantee, which promises to resolve any issues if an item does not meet expectations.

In terms of logistics costs, Business Prime members receive free Same-Day Delivery on orders exceeding US$25, while smaller orders incur a US$2.99 fee.

Customers without a Prime membership can access the same service for a flat fee of $12.99.
