Alibaba’s AI Toolkit Automates Procurement Activities

Global marketplace Alibaba is expanding its AI capabilities with the launch of the new Accio Sourcing Toolkit.
Integrated into Alibaba's agentic-powered Accio Work platform, the toolkit is designed to automate procurement activities, including supplier matching and comparisons, bulk outreach, negotiation and order placement.
AI streamlines sourcing and procurement
Automation is becoming increasingly embedded across e-commerce operations, helping businesses streamline procurement workflows, sourcing activities and supplier engagement.
Research by Thunderbit shows that 77.2% of e-commerce professionals use AI and automation tools daily to manage their operations, while 89% of e-commerce and retail brands are currently deploying or piloting automation software.
Powered by agentic AI, Alibaba's Accio Sourcing Toolkit is designed to manage a wide range of sourcing activities. The software leverages internal databases to conduct product research and discovery, perform supplier background checks and deliver tailored recommendations based on established sourcing frameworks.
Agentic AI enhances supplier engagement
Alibaba states that the new Accio Sourcing Toolkit enables autonomous supplier negotiations with continuous 24/7 follow-up. By defining product specifications, lead times and sourcing requirements, users enable AI agents to conduct supplier negotiations at any time.
To reduce time zone barriers and minimise delays, negotiations draw on professionally trained models, contextual awareness and real-world trading data to refine enquiries and gather missing supplier information.
The Accio Sourcing Toolkit also includes additional capabilities such as data-driven sourcing, unified workflow management and Super Sourcing with an autopilot feature, helping users manage procurement activities from a single platform.
Users can access the Accio Sourcing Toolkit by installing the plugin through the Accio Work Plugin Channel and connecting their Alibaba.com account.
Alibaba’s previous company investments
In 2025, Alibaba exceeded analyst expectations for its quarterly review, due to the company's one-hour delivery options and continued investments in AI.
The report indicates that second-quarter revenue reached 247.80 billion yuan (US$35bn), outperforming the projected estimates of 242.65 billion yuan (US$34.3bn).
The organisation also said it plans to spend 380 billion yuan (US$53.7bn) on AI and cloud infrastructure over the next three years.
Alibaba CEO, Eddie Wu, says: “We will be investing in AI infrastructure aggressively, the 380 billion yuan investment we previously mentioned might be on the small side given the customer demand.”
Furthermore, Alibaba introduced a conversational sourcing engine powered by AI in 2024 to transform B2B e-commerce.
Using natural language processing, this software analyses vast volumes of data to comprehend sourcing requirements, matching buyers to products and suppliers with exceptional accuracy.
Kuo Zhang, President of Alibaba.com, adds: “Traditional search engines evaluate web page importance through interlinking, credibility and ad spend.
"In this AI era, the B2B sourcing engine offers an intuitive and organic way to query, as well as rapidly and accurately match business buyers and business sellers based on their proven track record."
The software is capable of forecasting procurement demands, generating recommendations, managing intricate inquiries or complete files, and reorganising data to enable direct, tailored, side-by-side comparisons between multiple vendors.
