Yash Chauhan, Global Head of Neo Tangent, discusses his journey from finance to business management and the challenges of leading a global organisation

Yash Chauhan, Global Head of Neo Tangent, is in the midst of a transformative journey with the professional services specialist.

With more than three decades of experience under his belt, primarily in shared services and outsourcing, it’s fair to say Yash brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role he assumed early in 2023.

Based in Hong Kong but frequently travelling between North America and Europe, Yash hasn’t necessarily followed a conventional career path.

He explains: “I come from India and I'm a science graduate – physics, chemistry, mathematics. For my professional studies, I did my CPA and then, for almost six years, I was managing a finance function.”

However, Yash’s career took a significant turn during the late 1990s and early 2000s.

"There was a big change in the business environment and we had shared services; we had centralisation of work; we had globalisation," he recalls.

This shift led him into operations and business process management, allowing him to witness the industry's evolution over the past quarter of a century.

In February last year, he opted to join Neo Tangent, perceiving the move to be a natural progression given the trajectory of his career.

"I love my role because it encompasses managing the overall business, including all aspects like growth, capability building, service delivery, customers and future strategies,” Yash continues.

"The reason I enjoy my job so much is because I'm able to leverage everything I've done so far in my life.”

Embracing challenges in a changing landscape

Yash faces two significant challenges in his current role.

The first is transforming Neo Tangent from a global business services provider to a market-facing organisation.

“We’re going to market, marking a significant transformation for the organisation as we shift from an internal service mindset to an external focus,” Yash says. “It’s a huge change and I’m proud to be driving it, which I truly enjoy.”

The second challenge revolves around achieving growth.

Yash elaborates: “This means expanding our customer base and exploring new industries – an exciting challenge, especially in today’s environment. I’m embracing it and tackling these challenges head-on."

A policy of strategic perseverance

Few people relish being asked to pinpoint their own professional qualities, but, when pressed, Yash points to his strategic perseverance.

In fact, Neo Tangent recently carried out a study on Clifton Strengths, which unearthed ‘strategy’ and ‘achiever’ as his top two strengths.

These qualities have undoubtedly contributed to Yash’s success in navigating the complex world of global business services and transformation.

Throughout his career, Yash has also found inspiration in unexpected places.

He shares a quote from J.R.R. Tolkien's classic, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, that has resonated with him: "There is always hope."

This optimistic outlook has seemingly guided Yash through the various stages of his career, from his early days in finance to his current leadership role at Neo Tangent.

As he continues to drive transformation and growth at Neo Tangent, he remains committed to embracing new challenges.

"I relish the challenges, certainly," he concludes, embodying the strategic perseverance that has defined his professional journey.
