DPW was founded by Matthias Gutzmann, who identified a significant gap in the European procurement event landscape. While researching conferences to showcase his then-employer, a startup, Matthias found that most events were prohibitively expensive, lacked investor presence, and did not attract a meaningful startup audience. This audience is critical for driving digital transformation and innovation in procurement.

Determined to create a solution, Matthias left his job in New York, moved into his parents’ home in Germany, and invested his personal savings to launch DPW. His vision was to build an accessible, forward-looking event that would unite startups, corporates, investors, and procurement professionals under one roof.

DPW’s inaugural conference in September 2019 exceeded expectations, drawing over 400 industry leaders from 33 countries.
