Speaking at Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE, George Laurie, Vice President and Principal Analyst, Forester Research on reshaping global trade partners

April 2022, Procurement Magazine, Supply Chain Digital and Bizclik Media Group returned to the Tobacco Dock (London) to host our second Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE.

Dubbed ‘The Risk & Resilience Conference’ the two-day hybrid event was held on the 27th and 28th of April, featuring keynotes, roundtables, Q&As, and 1-2-1s from inspirational and knowledgeable leaders in the procurement and supply chain space.

George Laurie, Forester Research: Smart manufacturing technology is reshaping global trade partners

Taking to the main stage, George Laurie, Vice President and Principal Analyst at Forester Research delivered his keynote: /How smart manufacturing technologies are reshaping global trade patterns’.

Applying machine learning and AI, smart supply chains of the future are harnessing these technologies to anticipate changing demand and synchronise sourcing, production, and transportation.

This is being done in the hopes to meet customers' expectations for variety, resilience and sustainability despite growing disruptions, as well as drive the evolution of collaborative supply networks.

During his keynote, Laurie identifies the four factors driving new approaches to anticipate and fulfil demand, with technology coming to the rescue. “But t’s not just about visibility,” says Laurie, “organisations need to be agile as well. Rigid supply chains must become adaptable and collaborative supply networks.”

“There is always a risk, there is always an opportunity, smart organisations build into and test responses to risk into their operations to drive resilience and maintain a competitive advantage when they occur.”
