The Digital Supply Chain Forum

Executives from Alcumus and Moglix discuss supply chain digitalisation at Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE 2023.

Panellists:

  • Katie Tamblin, Non-Executive Director at Alcumus
  • Piyush Malviya, Vice President at Moglix

Kickstarting the discussion with a focus on how companies can reimagine and optimise their supply chains, Tablin and Malviya emphasise the benefits digital technology can provide.

Tamblin specifically emphasised the importance of the evolution of technology and collaboration within supply chains, particularly in areas like sustainability.

Malviya noted three core elements when reimagining supply chains including cost optimisation, sustainability optimisation, and risk optimisation.

Balancing priorities

Though it is widely known that technology can be extremely beneficial, both Tamblin and Malviya highlight the challenges of balancing competing priorities, such as cost optimisation, sustainability, and risk. The stress is that short-term optimisation in one area might impact others.

The two also note the importance of procurement and its crucial role in helping to balance these priorities, emphasising the need for proactive awareness and collaboration.

"Procurement has to play a very important role in balancing priorities. Sometimes, procurement overindexes on cost and needs to proactively define the percentage of indexing on sustainability metrics,” says Malviya.

"Achieving balance is about having strong alignment across stakeholders and maintaining complex relationships within and outside the organisation,” adds Tamblin.

The two also dive into, implementations, digital analytics and data management, managing change and communication, and external relationships.
