P&SC LIVE Dubai: Expert Advice on Optimising Supply Chains
Presenting at Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE Dubai, Ashish Sood, Chief Supply Chain Officer at LandmarkGroup, shared expert advice on how to optimise your supply chain strategies.
P&SC LIVE attendees learnt data is key to supply chain optimisation
Ashish began his discussion by outlining the importance of data, technological innovation, and people to supply chain optimisation.
"From a data standpoint, we need to look at what available sources of data are, especially at what is clean, and from a tech standpoint, we have to look at where the opportunities to advance exist," he stressed that having the right people ensures successful optimisation.
He noted the pandemic's disruption to supply chains, stating "Supply chain disruption was caused because one or more of these elements was impacted at a time."
Ashish also highlighted the narrowing gap between tech optimisation and hyper-automation; "Hyper-automation automates manual processes or decision-making when challenges or disruptions occur in the economy."
Later he discussed data quality improvements, explaining "Now the ERP data is quite clean at a transaction level, all the data is available and you can download it, you can look at it, you can have multiple optimisation engines sitting on top of it."
Automation key to resilience
Ashish also discussed the risk management strategies he has implemented, emphasising the need to anticipate risks before disruptions occur.
"By the time the disruption starts, it's already scaling up and creating a critical situation. You must prepare well for the disruption and notice the early signs upfront."
He stressed the importance of end-to-end visibility in the supply chain, which should be automated; "You shouldn't need people to work out spreadsheets to figure out what's happening. Automated reporting saves you a bunch of time."
He later illustrated the importance of automation, "When disruption hits, your people can do higher-order tasks rather than focusing on core execution aspects. People also become a big precious commodity at that time."
He also emphasised the value of strong partner relationships before supply chain issues arise; "If those partnerships are strong, they will stand with you through the disruption."
