Leading healthcare provider Johnson & Johnson has invested US$1bn in a new state-of-the-art distribution centre located in Jackson, Florida.

The investment centres around the US-based manufacturing, packaging and distribution capabilities. It will also strengthen the company's ever-growing vision operations, specifically regarding its top-selling ACUVUE-brand contact lenses.

Expected to be finalised by 2028, the new facility in Florida builds upon the US$6bn previously invested by Johnson & Johnson in Jacksonville, where the company currently supports a workforce of 3,500 employees. 

Johnson & Johnson’s Florida connection

Over the last four decades, Johnson & Johnson Jacksonville facility has invested in eye care through optical solutions. The corporation currently produces more than 1.7 billion ACUVUE contact lenses annually for US patients.

This is another part of the company’s previously announced US$55bn investment in manufacturing, research and development and technology through early 2029. The global entity currently delivers high-quality eye healthcare solutions to more than 40 million people both in the US and around the world.

Sustainability and emissions

Johnson & Johnson has continued to improve its operations over the last few years. In 2024, the pharmaceutical brand expanded its supplier sustainability programme to emprove emissions. The company laid out audacious goals to meet its objectives which includes:

  • Sourcing 100% of its electricity needs from renewable sources by 2025
  • Reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 44% by 2030 from a 2021 base year.
  • 80% of J&J suppliers by emissions covering purchased goods and services and upstreaming transportation and distribution with science-based targets by 2028.

Johnson & Johnson also looks to reach net zero emissions across the value chain by 2045.

As of 2024, Johnson & Johnson is procuring nearly 100% of its electricity across its European enterprises from renewable sources including: Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
