Global hotel chains form responsible procurement alliance

Accor, Hilton, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International and Radisson Hotel Group are co-founding an alliance for responsible procurement

The Hospitality Alliance for Responsible Procurement (HARP) also includes two global hospitality group purchasing organisations – Avendra and Entegra, and sustainability rating agency EcoVadis.

HARP will work to accelerate sustainable practices by encouraging close collaboration with trading partners to build transparency and scale positive impact across their value chains.

Membership of Hospitality Alliance for Responsible Procurement

Membership of the alliance is open to hospitality companies that are committed to sustainability and fulfil the HARP membership requirements. As part of the application process, each applicant must present their case to the HARP Steering Committee.

The HARP initiative addresses core challenges faced by its collective supplier sustainability programs including:

  • Scaling up visibility by strengthening supplier engagement rate, starting with the supplier assessment;
  • Accelerating suppliers’ performance improvement curve;
  • Enhancing the relevance of those engagements with a focus on the industry’s key categories.

Maximising collective impact in sustainable procurement

“As companies seek to engage their value chain partners in their sustainability efforts, they realise the complex scope, as well as common challenges, in their own sector," said Richard Eyram, Chief Customer Officer at EcoVadis. “It is through partnerships and industry-wide collaboration that the hospitality industry can maximise its collective impact. By joining forces, enabling more strategic focus and sharing best practices, HARP members can focus on positive outcomes that help pave the way towards their sustainability targets."

Caroline Tissot, Group Chief Procurement Officer at Accor: “Innovative and solution-based initiatives that focus on core business activities are crucial to realising the hospitality industry’s vision for a sustainable future. This collaboration marks a crucial next step which Accor is very proud to be a part of, we are excited to be leading creative efforts alongside major hotel and procurement groups. The collaboration will no doubt deliver unmatched value to not only our suppliers but also our guests, as we continue to push for positive impact.”
