DPD's Financial Boost Elevates Logistics Procurement

DPD Ireland, a subsidiary of the global logistics conglomerate, is spearheading a strategic expansion at Gateway Logistics Park.
The company is debuting its second distribution facility, anchored by a fleet of 270 autonomous robots dedicated to precision sorting.
This €10m (US$11.4m) capital injection highlights a broader shift in logistics procurement, as AI-driven automation becomes increasingly integrated into the operational DNA of modern enterprises. As parcel volumes rise and customer expectations evolve, procurement leaders are placing greater emphasis on automation capabilities, operational resilience and scalable infrastructure when evaluating logistics providers.
“We are delighted to announce this significant investment in our infrastructure and our people. This expansion is a direct result of the 99% service level we consistently deliver to our customers. Their trust and continued support have enabled our growth across all areas of the business. ”
Automation enhances logistics procurement
DPD Ireland’s new automated conveyor operations will be able to sort 10,000 parcels every hour. While the procurement partner for DPD Ireland’s autonomous robots hasn’t publicly been disclosed, DPD has sourced from other technology automation companies for its other facilities across Europe including Deus Robotics, Cartken, Vanderlande and BEUMER Group.
The investment reflects a wider trend across the logistics sector, where robotics and AI are becoming strategic procurement considerations rather than operational enhancements.
Automated sorting systems can improve throughput, reduce manual handling and help logistics providers maintain service levels during periods of peak demand, making technology an increasingly important component for buyers.
DPD Ireland’s autonomous robots will be able to store, manage and distribute products while maintaining a streamlined process through logistical operations.
Distribution centre details
As the largest parcel delivery network in the country with 38 depots, DPD Ireland is focused on sustaining its standards across innovation, sustainability and customer service. This new warehouse facility is also set to create 200 new jobs for the organisation.
Des Travers, DPD CEO, explains: “We are delighted to announce this significant investment in our infrastructure and our people. This expansion is a direct result of the 99% service level we consistently deliver to our customers. Their trust and continued support have enabled our growth across all areas of the business.
“This new hub strongly positions us to meet rising parcel delivery demand and ensures that we continue to provide the high level of service that our customers expect, year-round. It is an exciting step forward for DPD Ireland as we build for the future.”
By October 2026, the DPD Ireland site is anticipated to begin operations, strengthening the company’s ability to scale capacity while reinforcing the role of automation in supporting long-term procurement and supply chain strategies.
Sustainability supports long-term sourcing
Alongside its automation initiatives, sustainability objectives are central to DPD’s broader operations. The company plans to fully transition to renewable energy sources and achieve a 100% electrified delivery fleet by 2030. At present, all of DPD’s linehaul operations run on 100% renewable fuels, supporting a target of a 90% reduction in total emissions by 2030.
For procurement leaders, the investment demonstrates how technology and decarbonisation strategies are becoming increasingly interconnected, with logistics providers expected to deliver both operational efficiency and measurable sustainability outcomes.
To advance these objectives, DPD teamed up with commercial vehicle manufacturer MAN Truck & Bus in 2025 to trial the MAN eTGX, an all-electric heavy goods vehicle (HGV). The vehicle features a remarkable driving range of up to 800km and a charging capacity of up to 750 kilowatts.
Tracey Perry, Sales Director for Truck, Bus & Coach at MAN Truck & Bus UK, adds: “We’re proud to partner with DPD on this important journey towards electrification of their HGV fleet.
“These trials will provide invaluable insights for both companies as we work towards a greener future. As a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer with a growing portfolio of battery-powered solutions, MAN is committed to investing in cutting-edge, climate-neutral transport technologies and actively supporting our customers in decarbonising their operations.”
Geopost operates DPD as a component of its global parcel delivery network, with ownership held by La Poste, the French postal service.
