40 Years of Diverse Procurement at Stellantis

Car manufacturer Stellantis is a global leader in diverse procurement and is recognising 40 years of inclusive sourcing

In North America alone, Stellantis has bought more than US$100 billion from diverse owned suppliers since 1983, and runs a series of programmes to support diverse suppliers, and encourage its own supply chain to improve their diverse sourcing practices.

“Stellantis US has been a leader in supplier diversity for over 40 years, and was the first automaker to have suppliers follow in our footsteps to promote diverse spend in their own supply bases. We will continue to prioritise access and development opportunities for minority, women, veteran, LGBTQ, Disability certified owned businesses to strengthen our partnership with leaders in our community and industry,” said Marlo Vitous, Senior Vice President of Purchasing, Supply Chain, and Supplier Quality at Stellantis North America.

Stellantis 'High Focus' programme

One key area in its supplier diversity strategy is the ‘High Focus’ programme, which is an initiative aimed at driving supplier diversity amongst its Tier 1 suppliers.  The organisations involved are suppliers who are not meeting diverse spending goals, and are given a dedicated plan to support their performance in spending with their own supply chains.

It was launched in 2011, and most recent statistics show there have been 184 different participants, with a $6.5bn total diversity spend and 166 graduating companies.

Stellantis MatchMaker programme

Another critical part of the strategy is the long-running MatchMaker programme, which gives diverse-owned companies the opportunity to access Stellantis' supplier diversity development initiatives, including participating in "matchmaking" meetings with key buyers and decision-makers.

"One of our proudest achievements has been the creation of our award-winning Matchmaker program," said Bruno Olvera, head of diversity supplier development, Stellantis North America. "It is a testament to our steadfast commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion within our supply chain. We have worked tirelessly to foster a culture of collaboration and support with our suppliers, particularly focusing on empowering underrepresented businesses and communities."

Stellantis has also been selected as a Best of the Decade award winner by Minority Business News USA and Women's Enterprise USA for its on-going commitment to diverse procurement practices.

"It is an honour to be recognized for our hard work so far, and the work we continue to do to grow our diverse supply base," said Bruno Olvera, Stellantis Head of Supplier Diversity Development. "We have worked tirelessly to foster a culture of collaboration and support with our suppliers, particularly focusing on empowering underrepresented businesses and communities. Receiving an award such as the Best of the Decade reaffirms our company-wide commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and encourages us to continue being an industry leader in this area."
